The 2 players from New Caledonia is a good sign. If an NRL club regularly scouted there it could be huge for French Rugby League in the medium-long term.

League hasn't been played in New Caledonia since 2006 unfortunately. That said there are hopes to attempt to re-establish it in the coming years to help create pathways for the French national team.

Whilst of course the best thing for France is continued growth of their domestic programs, improving Elite 1 and getting Toulouse to join Les Catalans in Super League, getting league into New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis & Futuna could help France grow the selection pool.

personally IMHO New Caledonia are voting independence from France next year, they can be better supported in Asia/Pacifc, Japan could provide better for them than France and the linguistics is pretty similar as per the natives. France is a bridge too far for some of them, I would much prefer see them assigned to clubs in Aus/NZ rather than the other side of the world.

League showed rapid acceptance in NC before 2006. Then an official meeting was held with one particular disgruntled party and it disappeared.

Absolutely. Increasing the talent pool can only help and be positive for French RL. All it takes is for 1 player from New Caledonia and French Polynesia to make it in the NRL for other NRL clubs to recruit and invest from said areas.

Provided some of them have recent family members living in France & can provide them with the right supports over there then I'm all for them representing France. It's not easy fitting into a foreign nation.

Saw a couple of interviews recently,
the TLDR of which is Tas Baitieri and Remi Casty both saying that French RL needs unity and vision and the current situation of infighting can not continue.
No hard news but hopefully last years disappointing tour was a wake up call for all involved.

The FFR, national team, Elite competitions, and professional clubs all need to be singing off the same hymn sheet if French RL is ever to fulfill its potential.

Apparently the president's term ends this year... perhaps some new opportunities can be found under a new administration.

    Aurélien Cologni, France team coach:

One could not dream of a better media exposure for this draw than Buckingham Palace. France will therefore have to be ready on D-Day, if it wants to make noise during this event, and the whole French treizist movement will benefit from it. Admittedly, the draw in question is not the most favorable of all, but it could also have been worse, because Tonga and Papua are currently shaking things up, in the world hierarchy. England, we know, Samoa, it's always complicated to maneuver, and the ball is especially in our court. If we don't have the weapons to go for a quarter-final, it's not even worth talking about the draw. But let's not look back, it will be hard but there is room to move on,

Marc Palanques, president of FFR XIII:

Samoa is less formidable than Tonga, but the draw is however less favorable than that of the previous edition, where in our group appeared Lebanon, even if we did not manage to beat it. We are in the same pool as England, vice world champion in title, and I especially hope that we will be able to align the best team in France possible. If everyone plays the game, our chances of reaching the quarter-finals will be real.

Mathieu Khedimi, vice-president of FFR XIII:

Samoa is not Tonga or Australia. We will obviously aim for the first two places in the pool, respecting each of our opponents. It is up to us to prepare the players who will want to defend our colors. Aurélien Cologni has been extended by two years, until the 2021 World Cup, and beforehand we will look at the European Cup of Nations, scheduled for 2020.

And more specifically, there's more to French RL *problems* than Catalans not running out with 17 French players.
