it's tough to say

simpsons had a fine era but i can't even stand to watch the new episodes

i love new southparks. the old ones were really lame

futurama is consistent and has the best characters ever in dr zoidberg and the zapper

and king of the hill has bobby hill who makes me lmao. and gribble

and we should not forget spongebob squarepants

family guy is kinda funny but can also be lame. the new season is awful

american dad is like a funnier family guy, but who knows how long it will last?

mission hill was excellent but short-lived

so thinking about it, the strong south park era of a couple of years ago probably made me laugh the most. but as thierry says, the simpsons has given us so freakon much. that fact simply can't be ignored, regardless of how lame every single new episode is

Would have to be South Park at the moment for me, series 9 is awesome, especially "Mr Garrison's Fancy New Vagina" ... funniest sh*t I've seen in a while. Series 4 of Family Guy is pretty good as well, however the movie was a bit of a let down.

Speaking of Family Guy, if you don't laugh at this then you are wrong. So very wrong.

If you consider yourself a Simpsons devotee, then I'm very surprised you haven't noted the marked drop-off in quality. For about the last 5 years (very approximately) most of the episodes have either been rehashes of old ideas, or just gone nowhere at all. Also, the humour is becoming more and more self-referential to the point where it is very circular and quite hit and miss.

Just an opinion, but one shared by many.

I am a devotee but my take on it is that I still appreciate it for what it is and that I still get regular laughs from it.

You cannot deny the tendency for younger people to see things as "uncool" just because they've been around for a while, combined with the fact that it is hip to be critical of things that are popular.

If we are talking the KING of animated sitcoms, then the winner is without a doubt The Simpsons. The fact that the quality has declined slightly over the years is not an issue. Id like to see how funny The Family Guy is after 10 years of however long the Simpsons has been running.

The undisputed fact is that The Simpsons is the longest running and most successful Animated Sitcom, if not Sitcom, in history.
