Gabba rebuild estimated to cost 2.7 billion... f**kin hell....

wow, that's a lot of money. $900mill more than Optus stadium build! Will be great for the area though and certainly transform it. Be interesting to see how they create a link to South Bank from Gabba

Qld spending close to 3.5 billion on new stadia and people in nsw complaining when we spend 1.2 billion with double the population
You spent $875mill on a 45k stadium that didnt really need to be built with 1 NRL tenant, I get why NSW people might be suss at stadium spend choices there!

I’m sure when Gil takes over as chair of the Olympics he’ll ensure afl gets every advantage out of the build. No conflict of interest of course.

As a Melbournian I can say that Marvel (Docklands) is the worst big stadium in the country for mobile connectivity thanks to it having so much concrete compared to the likes of Accor and Suncorp in it's structure. Speaking of Marvel, there's still no confirmation from the NRL in regards to the Storm playing home games there since their CEO announced it last year while the Women's FIFA World Cup is on. There's only three AFL games on the weekends at Marvel when the Storm are scheduled to play there so I'm guessing they are waiting on Channel 7 and AFL to see whether they can play there (particularly for the round 22 game against Parra) or have to go to somewhere like Geelong or elsewhere

Will Australia hosting the Union world cup in 27/29 see any stadium movement I wonder?
Canberra, Perth, Adelaide may be beneficiaries?
Though Union doesnt mind playing on Ovals so likely any big games for mens WC at least will head to the ovals in Perth and Adelaide you'd think.

I think its a much more complex build than Optus, they have to relocate an old school or something... the cost might also include underground walkways to the subway being built from woolongabba to roma st

True.
Optus project did include a new train station, train line rerouting, a ridiculously expensive footbridge over the swan, a massive pub on site, and lots of landscaping and park area as well. Worth it though! Now if we can just get them to build a 30k rectangular stadium here!

Allianz only, to have just the one RL tennant there is wasteful and in my book sacrilege.. Dragons 3 (9Win) Bears 3 (9Cc), Roosters 12, Souths 12, that brand new stadium should never have a week off
Should transform the CoE area into additional change rooms

70% of games in Sydney should be at Allianz or Commbank. That they aren't is a disgrace both from a tax payers viewpoint and NRL growth opportunity.
Only Cronulla and Penrith def shouldn't be at those stadiums, and maybe Manly. Everything else in Sydney should be there.

Well you can feel ‘disgrace’ back there in Perth with no NRL club and we’ll sit back and watch our NRL clubs play at our grounds. I think I know who I’d rather be.

Difficult to play there when Venues NSW keep reallocated the venue to non RL events

with only one tenant why wouldn't they? If we had Souths, Roosters and Dragons (some games) there (and an NRL management that could actually lead negotiations for the sport) then RL would dominant decision making. You leave the door ajar and someone will barge through it.

Haha f**k off mate. Apart from Souths, fans of those clubs don't want their teams playing there.
