Being from Newcastle is a good thing. Obviously I don’t go for the Knights but it is good to see the passion that they have.

Hopefully the financial problems have now long since ceased and I think the area is and will continue to go through a boom. The Knights just need to string some successful seasons

dont agree.

some of our greatest (and most passionate) players were imports. It’s not where they were born that’s the issue.

honestly if we were relying on juniors only at present we would win nothing but spoons. Everyone recruits the Hunter and kids are now more willing to move, particularly to join what they perceive as a stronger club that will develop them better.

I could write an essay on fixing that, and it is far from an easy or cheap fix. And wests keep us running, but they aren’t big on spending money - so it will remain broken.

Really? He must have been mid 30s when he started as NSWRL CEO then??

Considering he was appointed General Manager of the NSWRL in 1983, yes he was in his mid-30s. Prior to that appointment he'd been Assistant Secretary-Manager at Easts Leagues club at Bondi Junction for the prior 7 years. In fact it was considered unusual that he kept his job at Easts Leagues after he left its Football club to play for the Parramatta Eels.

Ponga, fit and firing, is pretty much all we have going for us.

We need a reason for kids to want to stay, and players to want to come. He can be that reason if he reaches his potential.

Other than that, we don't have much to offer. Yeah Newcastle is an awesome place to live, but most places are when you are young and cashed up.

With the way clubs are funded now you don’t need a rich outside backer

Newcastle has excellent juniors it’s just a matter of building the right culture

their crowds are excellent for a team that’s been crap for ages

Newcastle will get it right one day

literally just had someone bagging it out above.

the ground needs some money spent on it.

and the bigger point is it is meant to be part of a masterplan for the hunter sports precinct… which was proposed 5 years ago but hasn’t got any funding to actually make it happen.

yet apparently knocking down better stadiums in Sydney to build new ones is much higher on the agenda.

Northern NSW should be our own state.
