The NRL has a good strategy.

NRL Grand Final stays in Sydney, 80000 plus capacity stadium.

They have created an event called Magic Round that stays in Brisbane.
If its about bums on seats surely Melbourne (100k) GF and Perth (65k) MW are better options?

The double header at Optus Stadium in Perth is selling like absolute dog shit. WA don't deserve it.

I doubt an NRL Grand Final could draw 100k too (unless Melbourne featured and they did some begging). You'd be relying on MCC snobs and my word, they are the most snobby mcsnobfaces in the country. They'd probably fill their allocation for a cravat tying competition though.

He’ll blame V’landys of course.

MCG holds the record for the largest ever state of origin crowd, why would a couple one of GFs be any different?

Agree on the MCC but I'm pretty sure they have to buy their tickets for "special events" like origin (and you'd think an NRL GF), meaning they end up going to the public and not left empty

Case in point why the RL has struggled to substancially grow outside of the north of 1 country and 2 states of another in over 100 years

Every RL is financial, Every RL club gets equal funding. So that model has worked why change it?

If there is nothing in it for the game then why bother?

Of course it will, As I said club games in such situations don't work. As the GF won't.

SOO is different because you have the whole state to bring fans in from

As if anyone would fly 4 hours to watch eight games of rugby league on an oval stadium. Magic round works in Brisbane because it's a heartland state

Location too, me and some mates are driving up. Others in the group are flying up.

You don't have those options for Perth and I wouldn't bother for an Oval

You're right that it does, but that record is purely through availability. Origin has exploded since Accor was redeveloped.

I know that they have threatened to release MCC to the general public but I don't believe that they actually have. They didn't for the 2019 AFL prelim that sold out in about an hour - which ended up about 4.5k off capacity. I think the MCC would consider that more of a "special event" than an NRL grand final. IMO it's just lip service in an attempt to get them to show up.

If Melbourne ever gets a GF (I don't want that) I would love to see 100k show up, I would love it even more if we beat the AFL record since redevelopment - I just can't see it happening.

As opposed to your afl that has gone global.

I'm assuming your sport is willing to give the grand final to Sydney or Brisbane. Didn't think so.

substancially grow ?
I give you ratings for all fumbling game that wouldn't beat Bluey on TV in NSW & QLD
& crowds for the midgets & thuns that would barely fill a phonebox for home games if it weren't for expat sthners
