The government, which had also rebuffed questions from journalists, answered that it was “commercial-in-confidence and amounts cannot be disclosed to protect the interests of the State and partners, and to ensure Queensland’s competitiveness with other state and international event and tourism destinations”.

if the NRL could snag a part ownership or cheaper deal on rent for these stadiums then its a better deal but all it is now is convincing the state government to fix up its own assets then awarding them with the GF

they'll change their minds with the threat the states biggest annual sporting event might be held elsewhere


Its all about prestige & dick measuring with other cities & premiers

Whether its 10, 20 or 30 mil its new income for the NRL regardless, it'll sell out wherever it is, and cities with smaller capacities can be asked to compensate loss of ticket sales in their bids. Will help fix the image that the N in NRL stands for national not NSW.

Let the NSW gov fix its stadiums when it feels it needs to (with lobbying pressure of course) and not tie that in with the GF and the potential revenue raiser it could be if taken on the road super bowl style.

Best case scenario you'd try get the stadiums that need fixes fixed with good lobbying with the other rectangular codes and keep the GF rights completely separate and sold for actual cash, not half baked promises for stadiums in 1 city in a national competition

In addition to the extra money grand finals in afl states are a huge way to grow the code

imagine by fluke Melbourne got a grand final and the storm make it at the same time

that would be massive

one year of Sydneysiders watching their team playing a GF elsewhere will see the govt come to the party quick smart

the NRL saw the benefit to the game back in 2015 in better stadia in Sydney & nothing has changed

Once you lose the stranglehold over a sporting event it can be hard to get it back. So cities will pay a premium to avoid it.
