Yet you have nothing to back that up except that you said so... sounds about right.

Also, I think you'll find that NRL TV ratings in Canberra as a whole are better than AFL TV ratings. Again, facts v TGD's opinion, it's a bit of a theme with you isn't it
I suspect if Canberra had an AFL team it would would have a base level of support similar to the Brumbies (maybe lower than the Raiders) with a bandwagon when the team is going well like both the Brumbies and Raiders

And those TV ratings would also be irrelevant because they don't address my position either; I never said that the AFL premiership is currently more popular in Canberra than the NRL Telstra Premiership... You've gone off like a two-bob watch without even understanding what you're arguing against, which is a bit of a theme with you isn't it.

It's not just 'TGD's opinion' either, anybody whom knows even a little bit about Canberra's history or has spent a significant amount of time in Canberra will tell you that there's a very unique sporting culture and history here, where neither Aussie Rules or RL dominates the market like the rest of Australia, and where the most popular code/sport has regularly changed throughout the city's history.

Aussie Rules holds a significant portion of market share in Canberra. It'd be of a similar size to RL's, and that's without there being an AFL team here. If the AFL ever feel the need to consolidate or attempt to expand their market share here by giving us our own team that team would quickly unite the majority of that support behind a single entity, and that entity would be of a similar size to the Raiders, if not bigger, from day one.

Raiders are 41 years old and stood the test of time

they put Canberra on the sporting map In 89

putting a team in Canberra stopped the afl to Wagga Wagga

the Brumbies probably won’t exist in a decade and afl doesn’t think Canberra can support their own team

in terms of most popular sport it’s not even close

same kind of people were saying union was bigger in melb than league and the introduction of the rebels would show this. It didn’t it showed the opposite

There was probably a time not long ago when that was true - at least at grass roots level - however, rugby league seems to have grown a lot since then

So, let me get this right the RL games played in Canberra get higher attendances than the AFL games played in Canberra and the TV ratings for NRL games are higher than AFL games.... but a Canberra AFL team would instantly be a little bigger than the Raiders...

Yep makes complete sense

If SR crowned national champions the Brumbies would have been the Australian champions the vast majority seasons. I can't be bothered to look up their results, but they'd have to have been the best team in Australia at least somewhere between 15-20 times out of the 27 years of SR.

It's irrelevant though, the point is that they're very, very, successful on the pitch and they're still struggling despite that.
“Best team in Australia” doesn’t count for much in a competition that has been dominated by NZ sides since it’s outset. They've won two titles, been runners-up 3 times and been eliminated in the semis once, all in the first decade of the competition. This made them one of the more successful sides of that early period and a moderately successful side overall but far from dominant (the Crusaders are the only Super Rugby side that deserves that description having been in 15/26 finals and won 12 of those).

Obviously AFL interest would go up dramatically if Canberra had their own team, but not to the level of the Raiders.

The AFL would throw a lot of advertisement money at the hypothetical AFL club in canberra (way, way more than the Raiders would get).
Plus all the away fans would travel as they do for AFL - unlike league.
I think an AFL team in canberra would out draw the Raiders.

Yes but travelling fans would not make AFL bigger than RL in Canberra, even if crowds were same (which they won’t be given their venue will be smaller).

yeah - the hotel business has nothing to do with the NRL except perhaps helping (or hindering) the Sharks. i.e. would the NRL schedule more games at Shark Park to help out the hotel - or get the Sharks to move so they can expand the hotel
I am still confused how a area of land targeted for football fields

Was allowed to be rezoned to public housing by council
