The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Cricket in Queensland don't require a big stadium for one test and a handful of BBL.

End of life Gabba can easily be downsized to a more boutique size.

If the QSAC was to have modern stands, then to offered to the AFL after 2032, would that work in the Lions favour?
It's hard to keep up.

But I think the legacy mode for QE2 is only 14k seats.

Yeah. I’m not saying that if the Libs win they will go back to the Gabba plan. They may even give the Gabba less and put it all into Suncorp. All I’m saying is whatever they decide now could still change.
Even if Labor lose, which is likely, the well is poisoned. The LNP can't then go on to say 'yes we'll spend $3.4billion for a white elephant'. Otherwise it is one term wonder again for them.

Then again anything is possible with those weirdos.

Suncorp upgrade is the right decision for Brisbane, cost is reasonable and of all the venue options it will continue to get the most use long term. A 70k seater Suncorp would also be a genuine contender for future NRL grand finals which might encourage the NSW government to get moving on Accor at some point.

QSAC is probably the only reasonable choice for athletics if they’re to keep to any sort of budget. Transport might be a challenge but not an impossible problem.

No, I mean the QLD gov may be averse to doing up the Gabba because of surrounding population density .. will now they have the choice to let it go end of life and rebuild as say $25k for cricket alone.

Meaning AFL needs a new ground, and they can have QSAC with a 35-40,000 new rebuild for the Olympics.

Thus my query is would the Lions WANT to play in Mt Gravatt?

I hope Suncorp gets done up to 86,000, just marginally above stadium Australia, just to beat the grand final crowd argument.

I am not an AFL fan, but this the most politically motivated short sighted decision from this pathetic Labor Government in a long time. Wasting 1.5 billion on an athletic stadium that will virtually never be used again in completely ridiculous. How many people are planning on going to an athletics meeting in their life time. Money spent on the Gabba will again be a complete waste because it’s useful life runs out in about 2030. So more wasted money. You spend how many hundreds of millions on Suncorp for a few extra thousand seats. Who gives a f@%k. It sells out maybe for State of Origin and a handful of other games a year. I would rather prefer to get good infrastructure for my city, rather than have some pretend bragging rights over a sport I could give 2 f@#ks about. Miles is a stain on humanity. If anyone thinks this decision makes him some kind a hero, they either don’t live in Queensland or are completely f#@king delusional.

You sure don't sound like an afl fan...

Only one thing you are right about is 1.5 billion is kind of a waste for qsac, I am sure something could be done for less but it is what it is. At the end of the day it is for the olympics so it needs to be done.

It is still a much better outcome than wasting double that amount to directly benefit the afl and the fact it is not happening is the real reason for your rant.

The argument that the gabba is outdated, unsafe and will need heaps of money spent on it anyway is complete bullshit and just what people say when they want to demolish a stadium like the sfs. Difference is the sfs was 17 years older, built on the cheap and needed replacing soon. The gabba is newer than suncorp ffs!

Up there with “Suncorp RARELY gets above 60% capacity” from AFL red.
Delusion haha.

Maybe sells out for origin smh. It sells out early at astronomical ticket prices. Will be at least 3 sell outs for nrl club games plus whatever finals. 3 days of sellouts for magic weekend plus wallabies, socceroos and matildas I'm sure will add to the list.

But yes it is a waste of money for 'a couple of thousand' extra seats which will probably be at least 10k more.

It will pay for itself 100 times quicker than a $3.5 billion dollar stadium that has at best 15 big sport events a year.
