Upgraded East & West stands.
New North stand.
Retractable roof.
Pedestrian Bridge.
60k capacity.

All sounds good, except…

Still used for cricket so still oval or rounded square shape to be more accurate.
The video says it brings fans closer to the action but the stands aren’t any closer. Pass, it’s a 1990’s presentation from the old boys in set in the past.

Bulldoze it or turn it into a cricket ground

Part of me wants them to stick with Eden Park, just so we (Wellington) aren't the only city out of the big 3 that's lumbered with a multi-use cricket/footy venue hehehe.

Honestly though, out of all the Wellington buildings that have been found to be earthquake prone & in serious need of repair or replacement, why oh why couldn't ONE of them have been Sky Stadium?!? Then we might have had good reason & a rebuild as what it always should have been - a footy/concerts venue (no cricket!).

Especially when you consider what an absolute gem of a vene that Basin Reserve is for cricket.

Throw up some retractable floodlights for limited overs games and build a few cabanas or something for corporate dollars and it's basically perfect.

We've missed a few opportunities to really enhance the stadium & roads around it - and that's a shame, because with an integrated plan for traffic & grandstands it could be even better than what it is now - potentially even a venue that AFL could look at for games if they want to dip their toes in the NZ market again.

The basin is the best cricket ground I’ve been to

If the AFL want to go back to Wellington, they would just use Sky Stadium,
