Unfortunately Te Kaha doesn't meet the minimum 40k capacity (only has 30k). As noted by another poster, FIFA also doesn't like ovals and they want 7 of the 14 stadiums to be already built I assume to reduce staging cost. And with the finals enlarged to 48 teams it is more likely in future that there will be joint hosts like next year (USA, Canada and Mexico) and 2030 (Spain, Portugal, Morocco, as well as Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to commemorate 100 years since first WC). Australia hosting the WC would however certainly have some spin off benefits in new or upgraded stadiums and hopefully rectangular ones.Yep you’re right probably wishful thinking for an Ipswich stadium to coincide with an Ipswich nrl team. Woild make sense to swap that for a 40k Canberra stadium that can be downgraded to 30k post games.
then add Nz to make it 14 stadiums:
Eden Park upgraded 60k
Te Kahu - existing stadium
New Wellington 40k stadium
Potentially missing out on up to two of its bigger events of the year
Probably compensation would’ve sweetened it up for the tenants
Panthers not without a show of jagging 4th. although less likely than not.Only teams who finish top 4 play at home beyond week 1, pretty unlikely Roosters, Sharks, Manly or Dragons make it that high. Safe decision.
