I doubt the debate will sustain itself long enough to be an election issue. People don't hold their attention long enough & with Xmas coming up I doubt too many are even listening ATM.

There seems to be a lot of talk about getting Allianz done before the election + all the public pressure on spending "all the school and hospital money".

True, but no one in power has said anything.

Honestly they’re in a really tight spot now. If they lose a major event like the NRL GF they’ll be crucified. Not to mention the optics of favouring east Sydney.

Do you think the NRL will have the fortitude to actually take the GF away if they don't. That would have to be enough of a deterrent surely.

They will if they get enough money. If the rumours of the QLD govt offering $10m are correct that’s easily enough to make up for the shortfall from ticket sales.

My guess is the Victorian govt may offer even more.

I think at that point they really have no choice. It might snap a future govt into action, and they’ll no longer take the NRL lightly.

NRL have 4 genuine options to take the grand final outside of Sydney

Perth - 60k
MCG 100k
Brisbane 52k
Auckland 50k

If you rotated it & opened up a bidding process I think you could make a killing. NSW govt would look like muppets losing this. I suspect labor will understand that too if they win the election.

I posted it to r/nrl and it's getting mostly negative feedback so even league fans seem to be against it. Even one bloke poking fun because of the amount of people who signed.

Needs someone big to get behind the petition, and few have the courage to go against the “schools and hospitals” narrative.

If Fitz didn’t push the other petition it would be on a lot less signatures.

If this ever happened I think it would be hard for Sydney to convince them to go back to how things were. The NRL could make a killing by selling off the GF each year. Would also be a great way to showcase the game in different areas.

Would be a huge cock up by the NSW government if that happened.

NRL themselves can’t get involved in a petition, would look too amateurish.

But if some big names got behind it, Vossy, some big name players etc, it’d help.

Imagine the field day Bandana tard will have if the players publicly come out and sign it.

‘NRL players putting themselves before the needy of NSW......’

Everyone knows he will do it the f**khead.

the point that this stadium spend represents only 1% of the overall budget for projects & development in NSW needs to be continued to be hammered every time that bandana wearing wanker sticks his head up sprouting his mis information & showing his contempt with his anti league driven agenda.

He is ANTI Sydney
thats what he is
He professes to be a proud Sydneysider
yet wants his home town to be lumbered with 2nd class sporting facilities compared to every other capital city in the country
I hate Sydney Fitzmoron needs to be exposed as the clown he is
Sydney needs to keep pace with its competitors or risk becoming a 1st world city with 3rd world stadiums

The guy who started the pro stadium petition tweeted it to all the big names on NRL twitter, not one retweeted it from what I can tell.

To get the players interest in an issue you need to talk about the thing they care about...$$$.
If you said "new stadium = big crowds = more money" they would likely get interested or at least their wives and agents would.

Probably wouldn’t get it back to every year, but they’d beg for it back every second. And at that point they’d probably build the stadium as well.
