Interesting piece last week on the WA Govt getting behind the push for an NRL club here. Can only bode well for BankWest Park to get finished off if we ever expand.

A team of sports administrators and a State Government minister are leading the charge for a third footy club in Perth — only this franchise will be competing in the National Rugby League.
Sport Minister Mick Murray told The Weekend West this week that a working group had been established to pitch WA’s case as the NRL eyes a possible expansion to the west ahead of the signing of a new broadcast agreement in 2023.

Formed in November, the working group is chaired by Venues West board member Linda Wayman and includes Housing Minister and self-confessed rugby league tragic Peter Tinley, Venues West chief executive David Etherton and NRL WA general manager John Sackson.

Replacing this western side with a new corporate stand would be the next priority, bringing the capacity up to 25k'ish.

WSW fans would've got it down quicker.

And what is the average crowd of the Storm after all these successful years at the very top of the NRL ladder? And what is their average Melbourne TV ratings compared to the Swans Sydney ratings? And how many players have the Storm brought through to 1st grade(non Islander or Maori) from Victoria compared to the Swans from NSW?

These are all important markers and I think the Swans are winning at least 2 out of the 3 by quite a margin. Also I would guess that there are more kids playing AFL in NSW than kids playing League in Victoria. Anyone know?

I’ll bite at this bit, you’re still a complete racist dipshit.

The difference with the McDonald's analogy is that the market is responding as customers. The Swans are not growing their average attendances anywhere near in line with the money spent; 25k in 1996 and 34k last year (the arse is falling out of their average this year as they are awful on the field). That is appauling growth compared to the investment made, just like their TV ratings.

No one has converted islanders or maoris? Well, without the storm they wouldn't be attending RL matches every second week and would have many less options in terms of local RL teams to play for. So, yes they are additional players and supporters that the game wouldn't have without the Storm and they are Victorian. Agree on development of more local talent, it could be better.

The Storm are a well run club and they will be fine. They are still at the top even without Slater and Cronk.

Wait till they have 3 lean years. Watch their average drop to below 10k. The point is it doesn't matter how much more the AFL pump into the teams, as long as they keep doing it eventually as with all things, their fortunes will change. That is called the long game. Ask the Chinese what they think of the long game.

The NRL have a day by day cover ones butt game. Works brilliantly, right?

Back on topic, I mean look at the Canberra city Stadium, the NRL should go nuts and hard core against that twerp Barr, and use some of that $2b that they got by hiring the best lobby pressure men/women in the country to circumvent that tool and make sure we the rectangle sport loving people of Australia get a City Stadium with roof(being in Canberra, you know it makes sense) with in a 5 year window.

We should never, ever have to compromise for that nonsense joke of a sport again. Especially since we have the most powerful man in the land as one of ours. You get the best people onto it and you can justify a snow making machine in the Antarctic.

Then build a Parra style stadium in the North around the Chatswood line and then South for Saints and Sharks on the Train line down there and we are covered for this State more or less. Then watch the average crowds jump by about 5-10K depending which teams are going well in any given season.

If we had all that, then I could easily see NRL crowds going from lingering for the last 20 years around 15-18k a season, to around 25k average a season very quickly and in stellar seasons where all the highest drawing teams are doing well, it would not surprise me if the average crowd bumped up to 28-30k and memberships through the roof.

Now shouldn't the NRL hierarchy be thinking and dreaming and then actioning a plan for this type of outcome for the game that they are in charge of to make better and number one in the country?

Instead, Greenberg, comes out and promises to take a few extra one off games there. WOO HOO! What a leader. A true man of vision and of action. The best leaders, hire the best people for any given task at hand. They don't sit there, pick their noses and then flick whatever God awful slimy goo they dig out of there straight on to their customers to swallow.

Also, they should already be making political mileage in Perth for a brand spanking new stadium for when they admit the Western Pirates into the NRL. Again it should be a no brainer if they want the Pirates to be a successful entity from the very get go. First impressions are massive when you are trying to wow a new market. But what are the chances of that ever happening. They will probably bring in a Perth team and be happy with that crappy ground for the locals to attend. Of course they will, I mean they are happy enough for teams in their heartland to play out of worse, right? While the other Footy code has the best state of the art Stadium in the country to see them through the early part of the 21st century.

That boat has sadly sailed. They've spent $125mill on Bankwest Park and didn't make any provision in planning around Optus for a potential future rectangular stadium in the precinct, which is a massive mistake and missed opportunity imo. Best we can hope for now is about another $150mill to be spent and stadium finished off.

We certainly agree that the NRL need to do much, much more in Victoria but I honestly think the AFL have peaked. They got a short term spike from the SL war and haven't really grown since. RL is now getting its sh!t together and we are going to start closing the gap. It will take a while, we've given them a 2 decade headstart but they are seriously struggling to make inrodes in NSW and QLD other than the gift we gave them in the mid 90's.

The new stadiums in WA and SA have seen AFL growth significantly in those two states last couple of years. Melbourne pretty static. NSW and Qland long term plan and is as much about perception and presence. Theyve been at it 25 years plus and have no problems funding it for another 50 with the revenue they enjoy and the control on expenditure they have over the clubs.
Something Gallop with his pins on a map never did get. National sponsors, Govt grants and bigger TV deals come off the back of the perception of a national sport based in all large capital cities.

I hope you are right, but I don't see any real signs of NRL administrative improvements to get excited about.

Do we really reckon pirates would get a run on Optus stadium ?

It has at least 1 afl game on it every weekend..

We aren't smart enough to have a draw that would avoid clashes..

The mole is reporting the new Parramatta Stadium is awesome, players say except it is very slippery, extremely at night.

Now the Stadium has not changed climate.

Is there a standard grass used for all NRL grounds?

Are the players looking for excuses? Not just Parra players says the mole.

I think the Pirates would probably only use it for semi-finals.

They currently have a very decent 21,000 seat stadium, which with a future upgrade will be in the 25,000 range. Perfect for an NRL team week-to-week.

It isn't normal grass. It is some sort of mixture so that could be true

glad you can admit it. Would rather have 2 heads than wear a white hooded cape. When’s your next KKK meeting?

I laugh at your racist taunts. They are as effective as when the left make everything a racist expression at the drop of a hat.

Kind of makes you think that maybe the accuser protests to much.
