The three codes have come out this morning supporting Civic over EPIC, but expressing concern on how the roof may ‘cook’ the grass in Summer months.

plenty of stadiums these days will roll in pitches, surely that’s the answer for Canberra?

Yes of course you've been to a lot in sydney.Something you don't want to read./We is(sic) here ,you is(sic) over there. And I repeat one more time, you can count on your hand the number of times you've been here.

You're got far more chance of getting 25k in stadium with cover and a rectangular one with a reduced capacity and the ability to close off the top decks, than the current schmozzle that is ANZ.
FYI ch 9 doesn't want Thursday nights in any future Tv deal.
You in your inimitable style know exactly what Sydney fans of the Tigers/Bulldogs and Souths want ,because you can say it with confidence.Just LOL.
The only meritorious thing debating with yo is, I've now ticked over 20K posts. And lost a few minutes of my life,I'll never get back in the process.o_O

You seem to think you know me? again with the personal rants and insults. I travel to Sydney on avg 3-4 times a year with work and been here for twenty years so I’ve experienced it enough to form an opinion!

I’m making a call based on the fact no one wants to go to anz now, I dont see that changing much just because the seats have a higher rake. Reality is you can get Into a decent 20m-50m line seat now, but not many want to. I’ve read enough excuses/reasons why fans don’t want to go to anz to watch club games and very few of them have been due to the rake of the bottom tier!

prrof of the pudding and all that, let’s see who is right in a few years time, if clubs are stupid enough to continue play there

Halfway maybe?
But you said yourself you weren't right up top in your pics either.
I've sat up the top top of ANZ and yeah it's pretty shitty, but I'm skeptical this wouldn't be the case in your pic too.

i bought scalped tickets years ago to Bank of America stadium and they were literally the last row and the view was still alright, much better than ANZ’a last rows.

maybe my pic doesn’t show the view being better all that well, i had consumed a shitload of beer prior to the game though so my pic taking ability was hindered a fair bit. That pic was probably 3/4 of the way up after looking at the panoramic pics I have.

sidenote, halftime in that game i posted the pic of, C and C music factory and Montell Jordan did the half time entertainment...... I though they were taking the piss when the announced it but sure enough out they came. I got some video footage and my drunken ass apparently enjoyed it..........

The problem with Civic is that unless the government is open to knocking a bunch of buildings down, which would massively blow the cost out, there's no space for a stadium anymore.

The Civic pool location was never going to be big enough unless they realigned Parkes way, which is a major road that will be expensive and hard to realign, and the Raiders (being the stupid f**ks that they are) built their COE (that could have been built anywhere and served it's purpose) on the Rugby League Park which was the only other location in Civic where it was feasible to build a stadium (in fact it was a much better location).

So basically a stadium in Civic is more or less a no go anymore, and the best option for everybody would be to look to build the stadium in one of the other city centres where there is space. I'd suggest Woden as the next best option.

Woden is probably the most central part of Canberra other than Civic, there's plenty of space to build a stadium at Phillip Oval (would have to kick Cricket ACT out, but it's doable), it's got a fair amount of restaurants and stuff to do that are all walking distance from the stadium (and more could pop up around there if a stadium was built), there's a bus interchange just down the road, and there's even a pre-existing multi-storey car park that is right across the road from Phillip Oval. Though it's not in Civic it's the perfect location, I'd argue an even better location then Civic pool.

There's even a Viking connection there considering that Woden is just the Anglo-Saxon name for the god Odin. So maybe it was meant to be all along.

Or they could just build it with a proper roof instead of a glass roof, which was always a f**king stupid idea anyway.
Looking at the trusty map, the Northbourne oval block is roughly the same size as the Civic pool block with a more awkward shape. Woden sounds like a good idea, with transport links being updated in the near future. On name alone, it wins hands down.

I would say that's the #1 criticism of the stadium, once you're there.
Especially if you take into account the distance from the field in the cheap seats behind the posts, and the poor atmosphere contributed to by the distance and shallow rake.
Bringing everything in closer and steeper will make a massive difference for 50,000 seats.

The other problems are
- it's a pain in the arse to get there for east-sydney folk, with direct trains only running for special events.
- the bar and restaurant scene around the precinct is dire. Pre-game options limited and post-game options completely non-existent.

Both of these will gradually be solved with time. New metro line going straight through it, and residential blocks in the park encouraging culture growth.

I really hope the metro going through it runs simultaneously with the existing line for big games.
Getting out of there after Origins and GFs is a nightmare. Doubling the train capacity would be great.

I can travel to the GC 3 or 4 times a year ,doesn't mean I'm an expert or familiar with the issues that confront the residents that live there 365 days a year, with homes/businesses and school involvement. .And I've been to C Bus a few times via the bus from near the Casino and the Fair, whilst staying at Broadbeach.I've been going to the Gold Coast well before it became what it is today. Try 40 years. From Kirra,,Tugun,Surfers and Broadbeach.

Live and commute regularly from Sydney outer suburbs on a regular basis, weekdays and weekends. That'll give you an idea. Not 3 to 4 times a year.

You appear to not appreciate behind the GWS mob and the AFL wanting to retain ANZ as is ,and that's another reason I questioned your reasoning by leaving it so.Why give that mob a further leg up.We have done enough of that with some dumb NRL decisions.
I don't have to be Luigi the Unbelieveable to know when one persistently ,ad nauseam bag Sydney NRL clubs ,everything the NRL does ,and find on the very are occasion any sort of positivity , looks at things always from a negative perspective, it has to be asked what are the motives. Everyone who posts has views negative and positive when out comes to the code,I do.

Please!!! It's not insulting(only a thinned skin person would think so) the proof is here for all to see. It''s plainly historic. Why would anyone want to see the AFL get further usage from another stadium at the expense of rectangular codes is beyond me.

And apparently you don't bother to read what I have posted in the past. Exactly why ANZ is person non grata for many:
1) Because it is not intimate, not rectangular
2) Lacks cover
3)Transport issues currently abound ,but are being attended to.
4) lacks atmosphere.
There have been games in the past which have drawn 25/30/35k there, so to suggest if it is reconfigured it won't achive those figures ,is a big statement.I certainly wouldn't be that dogmatic.
You're making a call based on the what's happening now. It's the later that matters.

You see when the SFS was built, it was something out of this world.but the architect had no understanding of what sports fans wanted. The cover there is crap, many of us got drenched on an SOO game there, and I was in one of the best middle seats. It became a stadium whilst the viewing was fine, was not ideal for families at times, lacked cover and for women the toilet facilities embarrassing.
The SCG is a dog for viewing .Why? It isn't rectangular.

Now there is a hell of a lot of transport infrastructure spending going on in Sydney ATM ,that could also be a decisive factor down the line for people prepared to make the trip to ANZ.
If they do away with Thursday nights as 9 wants ,then that should help with crowds.

The metro will make a massive difference re getting to OP. Work is expected to start next year, but not complete till sometime in the 2nd half of the 20's. The govt is looking at just 7 stations in total (maybe 1 or two more pending a final decision), - and just 4 between the city and Olympic Park. At 100 km/h (similar to the North West Metro), it will be a sub-20 minute trip from the city to OP. The Lidcombe - OP loop will largely become redundant.

Obviously the new ANZ will be much better than previously, but level 6 will always be trash.

We need a venue like this, SoFi Stadium, under construction in California. The upper tier looks wild. 760FF56C-EC9C-49A3-B9FB-6E84544D2A21.jpegA64C886B-5248-4E8A-A147-CB11F9563620.jpeg

One of the most famous stadiums in the world - the Maracanã in Rio de Janreiro. It holds the world record for largest stadium sporting crowd ever - 198 000, although it's capacity is now down to 78000.
I'm not sure the views are that good despite the reduced capacity.

On the other hand, Real Madrid has it right at the Bernabeau
Capacity 81000, The stands may be steep and high, but they are far closer to the pitch.

The San Siro in Milan (81000) (Ist pic below) is another example, so is Cardiff Arms Park (74000) in Wales.... (2nd pic)

It's possible to build large capacity stadiums and still keep the majority of fans as close to the action as possible.

Metricon must be the sponsor, they're everywhere.
