Still the line about the run down suburban ground with the hill.

I don’t know how many times it has to be explained that every ground has a different make up and is used for different games. There doesn’t have to be a one size fits all- for all teams and all games.

The hills at Cronulla is making up an ever smaller % of the ground. After the next round of works there will basically be a hill at one end behind a seating area. Plus a tiny grass area at the other. And when I talk to parents of young children, they actually find it easier to sit on the hill, so the kids can go wild.

Basically you’ve got a ground that provides something for all users from corporates to children... but the guy from Perth doesn’t like it.

That is spot on.The club is hardly sitting on it's rear end, expecting Govts to come rushing with grants.
Newcastle has hills.Wollongong has a hill ocean background, that will never be allowed to be built upon.

Penrith would be the exception due to distance (though it would be interesting to see how many people they could attract from areas like Blacktown that are half the distance to Bankwest as they are to Penrith stadium), and Dragons games in Wollongong
Sharks, Manly, Dragons sydney games and Tigers could all be at shared stadiums rather than the rn down sub 20k grounds they use.
Distance is not the only thing that contributes to travel time. Travel time from the city to the Northern Beaches is notoriously awful, despite it not looking that far away as the crow flies, plus it only gets worse the further north you live on the peninsula.
Where those shared stadiums are, how the NRL can adapt to overcome the barriers of attendance (like not playing them at 6pm), how clubs can adapt to appeal to more than just their local postcode members etc is where a shared vision and strategy comes in. Or we could all talk about how suburban grounds need upgrading for another twenty years and be happy with the 13k crowd on the grass hills of these clubs.
You'd have a lot of scheduling problems. Thursday and Friday night games would be out for Manly if we were playing out of the SFS.

Barilaro’s on board with V’landy‘s tribalism vision

More Bankwests': Barilaro reveals government will back NRL suburban stadiums

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has revealed the NRL's bold push for as many as four or five new 20,000-seat stadiums in Sydney has the backing of the state government, saying: "We're going back to basics".

In a development that all but guarantees this year's grand final will remain at ANZ Stadium, Barilaro on Monday said the Berejiklian government was "absolutely" supportive of the NRL's boutique stadia strategy, which proposes multiple "mini Bankwest stadiums" be delivered around the city over the next 10 years including a new venue at Liverpool.

The NRL had sought a commitment from government to its vision of restoring tribalism via suburban venues in return for keeping the grand final in Sydney.

The code has a deal with the state government to play the decider in the city until 2042 but that was signed on the basis of ANZ Stadium being transformed into a rectangular ground along with the construction of a new stadiums at Parramatta and Moore Park.

The scrapping of the ANZ redevelopment means that deal is technically off the table but Barilaro was optimistic about a new memorandum of understanding being struck.

"I'm confident the grand final will be played at ANZ Stadium," he said as the NSW government and the NRL announced a game between New Zealand Warriors and Newcastle in Tamworth on August 29.

"We've had a long-term agreement with the NRL and we'll work through those details. But I'm very confident."

ARL Commission chairman Peter V'landys said on Monday he could not comment on talks with government because they were commercial in confidence.

But he has previously made clear his desire to take the game back to the suburbs and his view that a range of new venues would be community assets, not simply football grounds.

Barilaro said the details of the government's backing were still being thrashed out.

"[The NRL] will be seeking some level of contribution from the state government. We'll also be hitting up the feds I suppose along the journey," Barilaro said.

"We're at the early stages of that conversation but absolutely there is an appetite for it."

He maintained, though, that Sydney's retention of the grand final was not contingent on the government splashing out immediately on suburban grounds.

"They are two separate things but they want to know where the government stands … what's the long-term vision," Barilaro said.

"Peter and the NRL, everyone has been working really well together. This has been a tough year. You could use that to leverage each other but we're not."

I have mentioned this before but I think the NRL should own a number of temporary grandstands which can be moved around from venue to venue.

Leichhardt used to have temporary corporate boxes at one end during the nineties

Interesting.
The main point would be to be able to move it to the be utilized where the fans are wanting to attend like at the team that is doing well at the time and otherwise have it set up at one of the ends at ANZ so it looks like a better RL ground.

This is not feasible. Stadiums all have different hills, etc to deal with. The cost would far outweigh any benefit.

Yeah nice idea but logistically a nightmare. Even the temporary stand they put in the regional grounds like Barlow park and Carrington park are hectic

I don't mean to be critical mate, but I don't think that I have heard a more ridiculous idea for quite some time.

Wow! Just wow!!!

I have no words.

Go Peter Zeus V'Landys. The man is a negotiating genius and the NRL's greatest asset at the moment.

I do hope that by the time it is all said and done though that the stadiums are around 22-25k capacity. Just so that when a team is going well they can average at least 18k+ otherwise it will be a little to small to do that.

Sure, probably ... but the media, change rooms and toilet facilities are not up to scratch for an NRL game.

Indeed. When the NSWRL had games there in the 1970s-1980s the visiting team, when they wanted a shower used to have to go up to the top deck of the King George V stand, and quite often when they showered there was no hot water left.

Penrith, Brookvale, Liverpool (Dogs and Tigers) and Kogarahb(Dragons and maybe Cronulla). Put some versions of Bankwests there and we're done. Sydney would be complete with stadiums.

Re-develop Belmore, Campbelltown, Penrith and Kogorah into top class venues and you will see plenty of fans get their bums on seats. Each of those stadiums can service several teams.

Play more neutral games out of Bankwest and other big ticket games.

Thanks for that ,pay wall stopped me .Just reinforces the fact, that all is not lost on suburban clubs getting some decent infrastructure in the future. With the assist of government.
And I will defend to the last Sydney clubs having the right to remain in the comp provided they can do so financially, and not for the convenience to drop one to bring in one from interstate.New clubs should be added ,not old ones deducted.
