No roof, no seats. How much could be saved. If they made Bankwest without a roof and with benches rather than seats how much would it have cost?

Who cares? It would have been a shit stadium then and no one would want to go to it.

You can't compare Aussie/Sydney to USA for sports especially footy. They are a beast of a Country with one City teams and have no other football rivals of any significance and an uninterrupted history to build and continue an unchangeable market dominance in both ratings and attendance success.

We on the other hand have had at least 70 years of failed, at times corrupt and crappy game administrators in a market place full of significant rivals. Just when we started to get the upper hand in the mid 90's a civil war erupted that ruined that dominance and success and ever since never allowed us to get back to capturing the public's imagination in the same way.

We are now a splinted lot in Sydney in particular and the youngest generation are less and less interested in sport as a whole. So if you don't build it right, good luck in filling it up consistently.

not just America though is it? End of day it’s about passion and committment to your sports club and what is and isn’t going got entice you to a game. Playing the game on cold winter nights doesn’t exactly help for example. DA49DA41-D2DA-4DD6-BFA3-333865FBE3D4.jpeg

Our ownership model is so different.

QLD government owns all the big stadiums, RL, Cricket and VFL.

Same with NSW state owns the big ones, with the smaller ones owned by Council. NZ have the same model, Mount Smart is Auckland Council owned.

The likes of Wembley, Munich, all the USA NFL ones are privately owned.

Both the brand new LA and NY ones are jointly owned by the two teams that will play there.

Maybe Easts and Souths should buy the SFS and build one together, - could not keep a straight face typing that, forget lack of money, there would be a fight in car park over the meat tray raffle results.

We are slaves to government as we is poor.

Wembley was part govt funded (around 20%) rest Football association.
Some English stadiums are private (mostly EPL ones as they have the revenue to be able to borrow large) but the smaller ones are often council/govt funded such as KC and Doncaster.
Many of the American stadiums are massively subsidised by the state govt to attract or retain a team. The new Las Vegas stadium was funded $750mill by govt and $1.1bill by raiders.

the Raiders are a regional club that has got their non football operation exactly right & they are financially strong & independent as a result. 7 licensed premises with a lot of pokies help yes , but the Raiders have a diverse financial port follio including owning office blocks & warehouses in QLD , plus a residential development next to their COE in Braddon. All of this nets them tens of millions in revenue each year.

Its a model that a lot of clubs should look at.

Sounds like they should just ditch football - it's a money loser

Brookvale latest.

My only disappointment about this redevelopment is that they haven't taken advantage of building the stand bigger to have a higher capacity.
This pic shows that there is plenty of room to have a larger top tier.
Probably had something to do with sightlines and local NIMBYS.
