Why spend another $70 million in Newcastle for a few soccer games, when that money could be spent upgrading facilities where they are needed?
And why does Newcastle need a 35k stadium? It would be an under attended white elephant like Gosford is!
Could it be you are a Newcastle boy?

These are the venues for the womens world cup. NSW Government should consider it a failure that there is only 1 city getting games compares to NZ which has half our population and they have 4 cities. Newcastle needed to be upgraded to 35k years ago.
  • Adelaide – Hindmarsh Stadium
  • Auckland / Tāmaki Makaurau – Eden Park
  • Brisbane – Brisbane Stadium
  • Dunedin / Ōtepoti – Dunedin Stadium
  • Hamilton / Kirikiriroa – Waikato Stadium
  • Melbourne – Melbourne Rectangular Stadium
  • Perth – Perth Rectangular Stadium
  • Sydney – Stadium Australia and Sydney Football Stadium
  • Wellington / Te Whanganui-a-Tara – Wellington Stadium

Sorry but that is a specious argument. NZ does not have states yet it is hosting games at 4 different grounds located in 4 different cities. Australia is using 5 different grounds located in 4 different cities. As it was a joint Australia-New Zealand bid, and was bid for on a national basis, why the heck should there be more than one city in NSW getting a game?

From NSWs perspective it is better for tourism to have the 2 venues in different cities. So thats enough from the perspective of NSW venue building which is what this conversation is about.
From the perspective of the soccer world cup bid Newcastle has a bigger population than Hamilton. It also has a better history of crowd support for womens soccer than possibly any of these cities.
The main point is lets get 2 cities with world class rectangular stadiums before we get 4 in 1 city.

The record is 20,029 at Bankwest Stadium, eclipsing the previous benchmark of 16,829 set when Australia hosted Brazil in Newcastle two years ago (so it is only slightly second to Sydney).

Penrith is further from Parramatta than Parra is from SFS. The Western Sydney label is so vague and meaningless not even government institutions can agree what it is exactly. So using your logic boony Parra never should have gotten a stadium in the first place.

Also Parra to ANZ will be a five minute trip in the next few years because of the metro. Surely spending 360 mil so Eels and that dying a league club can save five minutes is a lot worse than making sure Penrith fans, I don’t know, not get heat stroke?

Historical attendance suggest Penrith already have a suitable stadium.

Nobody is getting heat stroke? The league season is late March to August!

With a 35k capacity stadium with ends like at Bankwest & a good team the Knights could easily get regular 28k crowds with occasional 30k.

I wonder of they will upgrade hbf park (perth) any further? Be nice to get a shiny new corporate west stand.

No way. Penrith get bad crowds (sub 12k) if they are anything less than a very good team.
Their crowds are improving all the time. With continued success they will continue to grow. This year they are 5 of 5 capacity crowds. No other club can match this. But that doesn’t suit your anti- Penrith point of view, does it?

Capacity crowds aren't hard to achieve if you only have to reach 16k though.

I'd still be happy to get an average of 16k, than get what manly and dogs have been getting of late, with or without covid restrictions

They had over 20k for the Canberra game before the Government reduced it back to 16k. They would have 20k every week if allowed.

And so could Penrith!
5 games at home - 5 sellouts!
I don’t think Penrith could sell out 35k each week. But they would have sold out 22-23k or whatever the true capacity is at Penrith. Very much 2003 / 2004 support and it’s cool to see
