Meanwhile in Tassie the stadium debate continues with the opposition and greens shoving the boot into the government for putting a stadium first and our decrepit housing and health issues second. At the same time afl clubs are folding, including top tier clubs, and the local afl claims a one billion dollar stadium will save them. Perverse logic at best. A new stadium here is no sure thing. The opposition have seriously increased the pressure suggesting albo might tell the useless premier here to upgrade existing grounds and not blow huge $s on an expensive new stadium just to feed Gil’s massive ego. The stadium proposal includes bringing rectangular sports to Tassie including league. They even got Spud Carroll to promote it. It puts some perspective to the ongoing discussions here that a state with such a small population based in three centres hours away from each other has a government that would want to spend a billion dollars on a new stadium that holds 23000 people when it has two fit for purpose stadiums that can hold 20000 spectators already.

What’s the argument against using the existing stadiums? It does seem like a colossal waste of money.

Secretary of State Growth (a mate of mine) told a committee inquiring into the stadium that the government didn’t want the new stadium until the afl told them they had to. Was on 7 news last night. Says it all really.

Yeah well ‘you have to’ doesn’t really justify it. If you’re going to take away money from other service to build a stadium there better be a damn good reason.

The same as the argument for new stadiums in Sydney (and anywhere else) - better facilities in a better location will better service the community. The NIMBYs/naysayers act as if cancelling the stadium will mean more money for health/housing. It won’t.

The perfect scenario would probably be for Sydney sides to play the non- Sydney sides at their local grounds whilst playing against their Sydney rivals at a few venues like Commbank or Allianz.

Schedule the Sydney games in the afternoon to avoid problems with distance or travel.

Wasn’t that actually in the paper the other day? It’s like 65 to 70 minutes now.
The privatisation of State Transit buses has been an absolute horror show for anyone reliant on buses to get to work from the Northern Beaches and North Shore. There’s been so many delays and cancelled services people have started to give up on public transport and drive to work, which is making morning and evening traffic worse by the day.

A temporary video screen is now in the NW corner of AAMI Park. I'm guessing this was following complaints about some being unable to see or have a restricted view of the existing NE corner screen
Should’ve been ready before the other screen was dismantled really. Nothing but framework in the SW corner at the moment. At the pace they’re going I’ll be impressed if both new screens are done before the WC.

Ayres no longer member for Penrith. Anyone got know if ALP government will proceed with building the new Penrith stadium?
