GC, Newcastle, Townsville... soon to be Penrith have far less population. Less usage and better stadiums then a capital city

They also have clubs that need more capacity. We don’t at the moment. shame union and soccer is are so sht here or we would have had a brand new stadium by now.
Really there’s only queensland that builds new stadia for both codes at a decent level.

FWIW, I hope the game expands to Perth and it becomes team 18. From there, HBF Park should get upgrades and increase it's capacity to the 25k to 30k range.

The venue has hosted the men's football world cup, the Euros, current Rugby World Cup, and next year, the Paris Olympics.

Totally agree. I've been to State De France and always thought that Homebush should have been like it. Decent venue, but still not as good as true rugby fields of course. We wouldn't complain about Homebush if it was built like this.

One of the 3 2000 Olympic design options was similar, sadly.

I think it’s always compromised and tbh 16k-20k nrl fans rattling around in a 60k plus stadium is never a good experience.

The missed opportunity was when they decided to upgrade hbf park in 2011, they should have hung on and waited for the perth stadium decision and built a brand new stadium right next door at Burswood. Govt had so much cash during the gfc they could have afforded it comfortably.

interestingly when Burswood casino wanted to pull down the dome part of the agreement (as they were tied into a Long term contract to provide a venue) was they would fund a new rectangular stadium right in the heart of the city. it was going to be built where the arena ended up. Some very shonky under the table deal happened which meant they wiggled out of it and it never happened.

As it is we got half an upgrade and we won’t get anything else until there is a club using it that needs bigger and better. On the positive side hbf park is in a good location With good public transport and near bars etc so at least the location is good. Just need it finishing!

The layout of Stade de France would've been a good option or plan B. Ideally plan A would be an 80k version of Suncorp, the Bernabau (left pic) or Allianz Arena (right pic).

Anyone damning Perth Oval as a shitheap are missing two vital points.

1. It is absolutely adequate for the two shitheap sports currently played out of it
2. It’s not a shitheap, it’s an average stadium which comfortably holds 19k. It’s better than most of Sydney’s suburban fields.

In saying that, Perth Red notes it’s better than Newcastle which it certainly is not. The corporate facilities at Perth Oval are what really let’s the joint down.

I don’t know why Perth is getting such a pounding from people. It is a fabulous city with a fantastic lifestyle and a great suburban, coastal lifestyle spread.

The people are far more similar to people from Sydney and Brisbane, than people from Melbourne and Adelaide. I liken it to a modern version of 1970s Sydney or early 2000s Brissie.

I hope Perth or NZII get the nod. If the NRL goes with Perth, I hope they can hold the government accountable for a big stadium upgrade (or new stadium) like the AFL have done with Hobart.

There's nothing anecdotal about those numbers, and they're the best data that exists publicly for comparing the sports in just Canberra/ACT.

For me GC or NQ are a good starting point, When you are comparing corporate facilities to part time grounds, then you aren't helping the argument

That's true.
30k similar to GC, Newy, Townsville. If admission is 3 years away then it could be done in time. If they had to have a season at Optus it wouldn't be the end of the world. If the WA govt arnt putting that on the table then the NRL will rightfully look elsewhere.
