This also states that they're relocating the Roma Street Arena build to somewhere near the parklands.. yet have basically completed stage 1 of this plan. Surely not, right?
I'm not really all over the roma st arena other than I know it is another 2.5 billion dollar excess for what we are getting.

Where the f**k are these prices coming from? More expensive than most NFL & European football stadiums at $3.4b AUD.

Suncorp was knocked down and rebuilt 20 years ago for 280 million. The sfs knocked down and rebuilt a couple years ago for 800 million.

There is no way inflationary costs justify that price tag.
How can a new 50k seat build in parklands cost almost double that of a 65k seat roofed stadium in las vegas with all of its extras and excesses!

It's a massive scam rort
Involving politicians. And the building contractors. If government money is involved
It's full of scammers

$3.4b for a 50k stadium is insane, especially considering it’s effectively a greenfields build. $68k per plastic seat. If that’s the going rate no new stadium will ever be worth building in this country.
Back here in Tassie we have a proposal for a 23000 stadium costed at 715 million but which will blow out to over a billion. The polls have consistently shown 70% against it. Every tradie in Hobart has a pro stadium sticker on their car. At least somebody wins out of fecked ideas like this.

Is there an Olympics price mark up or something? You know, like they do for weddings. Everything that might be reasonably priced suddenly gets a 400% mark up lol.

Assume it is being built in five or so years and they are allowing for lots of inflation and increased costs? Seems crazy.

PVL just needs to come out and say we'll never take the GF to an oval and QLD public won't accept it
It will have the same capacity as Suncorp, so who is suggesting playing the GF or other RL games there? It is for the Olympics, AFL, cricket and concerts (the larger field will mean an extra 10k for concerts compared to Suncorp).

No need for an uograded gabba

cricket will be lucky to fill it 2 day a year and the lions would need to give freebies to all of Brisbane to get close

it will be a huge white elephant

Meanwhile league games are outgrowing the capacity of Suncorp

Although cricket won't say no to this stadium, they don't need it. 1 test match a year plus maybe 1 international ODI or T20. Then 5 BBL games.

This has fumbleball written all over it.

So eleven Lions games, and roughly seven games of cricket, excluding the Sheffield Shield which doesn't draw a crowd and finals in both sports. That's less than 20 sporting events annually. For $3.4 billion, it probably needs well over 100 yearly sporting events.

No way Steven Miles will go for this.

It's going to be a PR disaster for the government in QLD.

"The Gabba re-develop was too expensive, so we can offer you a better alternative, for twice the price!!!"

This concept was telegraphed a few weeks back, definitely smells of a stitch up.
