Western Springs was once proposed to be the new home for cricket in Auckland - so if this development goes ahead, it's could well be one less option the city has to separate cricket & footy grounds. That’s setting the bar appropriately low!
Soccer shits me with this stuff. Instead of working with the NRL and Union for the benefit of all three in Aus and NZ, they want to live with this 'soccer only' stadium fantasy.Moving across to the great Auckland stadium conundrum, news today that the new Auckland A-League team are looking to build an 8,000 seat boutique ground at Western Springs.

Mostly Soccer doesn’t need 25km stadiums, in fact it’s detrimental to them. Having a stadium fit for purpose that they own and can earn revenue from, rather than paying rent on, is probably a better business proposition for them.Soccer shits me with this stuff. We all know that clubs building their own stadiums in Aus and NZ is not viable and a smart move would be to work with the other rectangular sports to get quality facilities in all major citiesMostly Soccer doesn’t need 25km stadiums, in fact it’s detrimental to them. No point signing up to something that is detrimental to your business. We all know that clubs building their own stadiums in Aus and NZ is not viable and a smart move would be to work with the other rectangular sports to get quality facilities in all major cities
Isn’t playing out of small suburban grounds the complete opposite of your endlessly stated view of a professional sportNo point signing up to something that is detrimental to your business.
That depends on the size of your audience. And they aren’t suburban grounds, they are new stadiums of a size that befits the attendance base.Isn’t playing out of small suburban grounds the complete opposite of your endlessly stated view of a professional sport
As such a small stadium in a suburb. Regardless of that I’m getting over that grand final with beer. Penrith are annoying and very good. That depends on the size of your audience. And they aren’t suburban grounds, they are new stadiums of a size that befits the attendance base.
Lol, you posted this before the game even ended last night. That depends on the size of your audience. And they aren’t suburban grounds, they are new stadiums of a size that befits the attendance base.
That lacks ambition and also doesn't address the fact that clubs building and owning their own stadiums, especially small soccer clubs l, is not viable and actively not working with RL and RU is to their own detrimentNo point signing up to something that is detrimental to your business.
the game ended just after Ht lolLol, you posted this before the game even ended last night.
Thatd be like saying NRl clubs should be aiming to have 60k stadiums or they lack ambition. That lacks ambition and also doesn't address the fact that clubs building and owning their own stadiums, especially small soccer clubs l, is not viable and actively not working with RL and RU is to their own detriment
I don’t get the idea of building an 8K stadium at Western Springs at all. It’s a huge site and even in its current configuration it would hold a lot more than that because of the size of the natural amphitheatre and amount of terracing there. It’d be perfect for cricket though.Western Springs was once proposed to be the new home for cricket in Auckland - so if this development goes ahead, it's could well be one less option the city has to separate cricket & footy grounds.
Next minute - we end up with the "all things to all sports" Eden Park getting even more money shoveled into it, when it's clearly not the ideal for out biggest city, being in the middle of a residential zone & being a compromise between an oval and a footy ground.
I see that Eden Park is wanting to host more and more concerts, good luck to them getting that on track!
