Well if Cronulla can play out of Sharks stadium, Broncos have many options.

Only Redevelop Suncorp stadium part by part and play with a reduced capacity for a limited time.

Play at QSAC.

Play at Cbus.

They’d work something out.

Sharks are a small club. Broncos are the biggest.

The obvious time to rebuild Suncorp is after the Olympics. Broncos can play out of the new Victoria Park stadium for a few years.

Won’t suitable for the Broncos unless it’s planned to be turned into a permanent rectangular stadium immediately after the Olympics.

There are approximately 10k single day seats that will be released later, but you’re totally missing the point.

Last year 3 day passes were available well into the new year. For MR 2025 the NRL was happy to release most of the stadium to keep up with 3 day pass demand. The single day passes will be exhausted on sale day, a significant increase from last year which was the highest attended yet.

The Broncos would have absolutely no issue in moving homes if we get a 60k+ upgrade. We’d probably be really cheeky and play some games out of CBUS, Tville, and maybe even a game at Commbank given we have quite a few members in Western Sydney. I mean, if we got 70k with or without a roof Brisbane would poach the GF.

The Broncos need a bigger stadium. We’ve had to cancel GA areas in 2025 because they brought the capacity down, and stadium members account for too many seats. We’re even starting to have 25k+ ticketed members. Multiple games sold out weeks in advance - the demand for a large rectangular stadium is there. I have no doubts that Brisbane would sell out 70k for origins, MR Friday and Saturday, Broncos Finals, and the odd home game.

The corners could be filled in one off season.
the western stand would need rebuilding, so maybe the Gabba or Gold Coast for a season.
The roof can go on in another off season.

The big question for a potential stadium at Victoria Park is, what does it look like post Olympics?

If it's 55k or 60k for the Olympics, will it stay the same capacity after the Olympics? Is there a demand for a large oval stadium in Brisbane?

Every four years, there are two major test series, one against England, the other with India. ODI's are becoming less relevant except when the WC comes around. And what is the future of BBL?

Then you have the Lions in Fumbleball. Yes they did win, and may have a surge of popularity in the short term. But they can't win all of the time and there will be years where they will be at the lower half of the ladder.

Not sure there is enough content or demand for a large 55k oval venue in Brisbane.

Also by 2050, Brisbane's population is projected to be over 4 million, which is less than what Sydney has at the moment. As well as the SCG capacity is less than Victoria Park's potential capacity for the Olympics.

Meanwhile Suncorp has two NRL tenants, Magic Round, Kangaroos and SOO. And this is just rugby league alone.

There seems to be a lot of fear that this will mean that we won't get a brand new world class rectangular stadium but I don't see it. It's going to happen regardless. Brisbane having a large quality oval and rectangular stadium is a good thing.

would people in Brisbane prefer a 50 odd thousand Suncorp in the current location or a bigger, modern stadium at Victoria Park?

Nothing can be done with the corners, it's where the main supports for the roof are located. The only thing that can happen to increase capacity is either a western stand knock down and rebuild or knock the whole thing down and start again.

The issue with the 3b proposed oval at Vic park is it will leave no money for anything else. Period.
If the government can upgrade Suncorp and give the Gabba a new life for under 1.6b, it will mean a much better chance at getting a boutique Rectangular stadium, upgrades to the show grounds In the near future. Not mention much more money left over for a state of the new Arena which Brisbane desperately needs.

PNG has committed $150mill over next 4 years for infrastructure. Some will go to the players compound, some to building training facilities. Hopefully some is left over to sort the stadium out. Capacity and corporate facilities are severely lacking at the moment.

Has their been any talk of the need for a second rectangular stadium in Brisbane for the Olympics? I thought the smaller stadiums needed for rectangular sports had been agreed with the bigger games at Suncorp?
