queenslander gov should do it. you can clearly see the spaces now that you mentioned it. kinda looks funny. ill be honest i probably seens it when ive been there but never took notice really. assuming the spaces are there because column thingys holding awnings up are located there?
Pretty much. That’s why the awning would require to be demolished. Can’t recall if there’s provisions for another type of awning to go in or not if they did build out the corners to expand capacity. But if you’re going to rebuild an awning, why not just build a roof.

All that but knock the Western stand down and rebuild it to match the rest as well. It’d cost a bit but that should get it to well over 60k if it’s possible.

3rd largest stadium in Australia, which makes sense for the 3rd largest city. Much better than 6th biggest as it currently sits, maybe soon to be 7th.

?Top 10 Stadiums in Oz by capacity?
1. MCG 100,000
2. Accor 83,500
3. Optus 60,000 (65,000 rectangular sports mode)
4. Adelaide Oval 53,500
5. Suncorp 52,500
6. Telstra Dome 53,300
7. SCG 48,000
8. Allianz 45,400
9. Gabba 42,000
10. Geelong 40,000

Shows how far behind the ovals we are in this country with only 3/10 being rectangular stadiums (and one of them being more oval than rectangular)

Stunning new Gabba design flips Olympic stadium race on its head
Unsure if these have been seen yet but these are new designs by HAL Architects for the Olympics.

Nice concepts and designs, but I'd still prefer a solution where both Suncorp & Gabba are upgraded along with the construction of the Brisbane Live Arena.

When it comes to lobbying governments for stadium upgrades the afl is light years ahead of the nrl

Basically any stadium project they have wanted has been granted (Springfield, Tasmania, Etihad upgrades etc)

Meanwhile the nsw govt hasn’t done the stadium deal yet for the grand final and is doing a budget stadium at Penrith when it should’ve been 800 million

Brookvale shark park Newcastle Wollongong and cambelltown all need money and might waste a few hundred million on a roof for Accor when the whole thing should be pulled down and done properly
One thing the AFL does well is lock clubs into long term stadium deals. E.g. Essendon signed for 25 years at Marvel. In Adelaide both clubs signed to play all home games at Adelaide Oval - clubs cannot sell games elsewhere. This takes some risk out of governments spending money on stadiums, as you know they will be used.

Recently, government spend on both codes is similar. Springfield is a training facility, same as nearly all NRL and AFL clubs have. The cost of the Marvel works and Tasmania is similar to SFS and Penrith.

The NRL has more old stadiums because there are nine being used by NRL clubs in Sydney compared to two by the AFL in Melbourne,

Only way Suncorp gets rebuilt in next 20 years is if A) we get a soccer world cup or B) The NRL agrees to move GF's. Qnlnd Govt isnt spending $2-3bill replacing it to get an extra 10k people visiting the city a couple of times a year.

Clown take.

hahahaha

Suncorp has close to 1m more patrons a year than the Gabba but it cannot get an upgrade for 20 years.

When the NRL add another Brisbane team that number will increase to over 1.8m or 3 times the Gabba patronage.

the NRL should have the GF in Brisbane every 2nd year (but only once they have a 65k stadium).

This isn't new. This was released 6 months ago.

Plus shutting down Vulture and Stanley for construction won't be easy. And the school.

Plenty of resource-rich countries with poor human rights records to bid. And when they’re all done, they’ll go again.
We deserve it for hosting the women's soccer world cup. It should be a gift to countries that pretend to give a damn about women's sport even though women are truly awful at sports.

Sold out 10 times last year just for League.

Extra capacity for Origin, Magic, Broncos multiple sell outs per year, Football & Union internationals plus Concerts wouldn’t go astray and would certainly help when bidding for big events.

Plus it’s older than a fair chunk of the Gabba, which is apparently about to fall over.
