Not sure where you're getting that from. The plan was to bring all the lower and middle stands in closer to the pitch and improve roof coverage for the lower areas. This was by far the best thing they could have done with Accor and would have met the needs of three NRl clubs. As is we have half a stadium for one club come out of the discussions.

The seating at the top tier would remain, and would spend over $800 million to reduce capacity from 83,000 to 70,000. Sydney's population will continue to grow over the next few decades. It won't stay at over 5 million, as it currently is today.

By 2035, build a new 80k rectangular stadium. Do it properly.

Suncorps had a pitch upgrade*. Maybe less patchy and sandy now?

We’ve recently completed an exciting field upgrade, rolling out 10,125m² of HG Hero Hybrid turf featuring Wintergreen Couchgrass - designed with cutting-edge technology for superior drainage, durability and a natural feel!
☝
Phase 1 - 3,300m² turf replaced post-Travis Scott to prepare for Brisbane Roar v Sydney FC.
✌
Phase 2 - 6,825m² turf replaced post-Brisbane Roar v Sydney FC to prepare for the Matildas v Brazil and upcoming Brisbane Roar home games as shown in the timelapse
📽

With just 5% artificial grass, our hybrid turf system keeps a natural feel and triples our playing capacity - setting us up for an action-packed summer season and ensuring a world-class playing surface for our massive 2025 event schedule!

*(Note from Facebook who no longer fact checks so may not be true lol)

I support the sharks getting their act together to provide female changing facilities, which is long overdue but these guys raked in big money selling what was gifted public land to a developer. They can fund this themselves or raise the money themselves

A ~20k #2 stadium in Brisbane would cover the vast majority of Reds games too these days. Whether they’re willing to give up Suncorp is another question.

The loss of Roar games would be more than covered by the increase in maximum concerts at Suncorp. It will probably make it easier to pack the schedule with concerts over summer.

Former Deputy Mayor David Hinchcliffe:

The Brisbane Olympic Committee is already in support of Victoria Park, as is Adrian Schinner, the lord mayor who before the Council election in March 2024 said he supported Victoria Park staying a park and implementing his master plan. Then straight after the election, he changed his tune and supported Stadium development. The proposal is for three stadiums not one and it’s supported by big sport and big business – swimming Australia, cricket Australia, AFL, the Courier Mail and Rupert Murdoch and a coven of Brisbane developers. Developers love the idea because as you can see from the proposal currently before the hundred day review committee, a large slab of the top of the park will be bulldozed to make way for private high-rise residential towers. Be afraid… Be very afraid!

Bid to heritage list Victoria Park and thwart any stadium

The Queensland Heritage Council is considering an application for Victoria Park, also known as Barrambin, to be protected from any development that would undermine its historical significance to Brisbane.

Dr Neil Peach, who represents a Spring Hill community group, has applied to have a vast area of the park added to the heritage list.

The application provides the extensive history of the area, including its use as a golf course, and notes Brisbane City Council’s more recent master plan.

The only reference to a stadium is that it was proposed by the Quirk review and “rejected by the Queensland government”.

However, that was Labor, and the LNP government has come under renewed pressure to use the park to build an oval stadium as a centrepiece for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

An expert panel is currently reviewing the venue plan. While Olympics boss Andrew Liveris is open to the Victoria Park option, even though Premier David Crisafulli has previously ruled out any new or additional stadium site, the terms of reference allow the review panel to make the final call.

Submissions on the heritage application are due by February 17, only weeks before the review panel will report back to government.

As I understand Stadiums Queensland and in turn QLD State Gov are heavily in favour of the Victoria Park option.

We are investigating a few things regarding Suncorp Stadium today that “might or might not happen” in due time. Can try get tidbits of where things are at regarding status of Olympic stadium location. However doubtful they’ll share anything of note.

The RBWH is going to love all the additional traffic going by...
It already gets heavy congestion as it is via the main road which becomes Lutwyche Road and then Gympie Road (arguably worst main road in Brisbane) and also the QUT uni campus.

Not to mention it’s a convergence point of where Clem 7, ICB & Airport Way all meet.

Is what it is. Makes the most sense.

Save the money and use it to build a boutique stadium in Ipswich instead. Make it 20k with provisions to go more should Ipswich get a future NRL team. I think that Roar and Reds would be better splitting their games between CBus for small match up games and Suncorp for larger ones.

The Olympic stadium is no longer about the Olympics.

It is a massive develop opportunity for carpetbaggers from outside Queensland to make a motza, by privatising the largest publicly-owned green space in Brisbane.

Any chance redcliffe gets upgraded to at least 20k?

Very little. Existing venues earmarked for the Football are Suncorp, Cbus, QCB, Sunshine Coast & Cairns with the later 2 inline for upgrades. Toowoomba was on there but got crossed off last review.

Likewise the Perry Park idea would probably have to come at the expense of one of the above so doubtful that will happen.
