Any chance redcliffe gets upgraded to at least 20k?
privately owned so not unless reddy pay for it themselves, best case is they get some gov funding to chip in but its similar situation to sharkies/shark park. plus ideas seems to be for phins to be play out of suncorp so no point. gov would be better splashing cash on sunny coast field if theyre gonna upgrade something north of brissy i reckons.

Save the money and use it to build a boutique stadium in Ipswich instead. Make it 20k with provisions to go more should Ipswich get a future NRL team. I think that Roar and Reds would be better splitting their games between CBus for small match up games and Suncorp for larger ones.

Yeh I’d prefer that too but Football would be strongly against it if it’s instead of a central 20k venue you’d imagine. Would be good for an eventual Ipswich NRL team to have a 25k stadium with 3-4 QLD derby games at Suncorp.

Govts have spent money on privately owned stadiums before eg cronullla or eithad/marvel

If soccer wants a more boutique stadium to play out of kayo stadium is perfect especially as they’ve hosted seasons there before

Just had a quick look through FA/FQ proposal.

Their Perry Park plan would come at the expense of the Sunshine Coast & Cairns upgrades. Also mentions bringing the cost of Victoria Park down needing to be looked at and reverting back to a 45-50k venue post Olympics, both of which makes sense if they do go with Victoria Park.

I couldn’t help but notice their “averages” graph is wrong on a few things, the first thing that stuck out was they show Broncos attendances dropped in 2024. Despite all the effort that shows some poor attention to detail.

The poll results in that article are interesting. So far they’re certainly not painting the picture the media has been pushing about Vic Park being the popular choice, last in fact.

I doubt a poll in the Sydney Morning Herald is very reflective of what Brisbane residents want. Even in Sydney, the SMH has a certain readership that is not broadly representative of the vast majority of residents of that city.

Maybe, but people from Brisbane can get on there and vote same as anyone else. Those who are interested in the stadium situation would be the main audience of articles like this and algorithms would put it in front of people who have shown an interest. If Victoria Park was the clear cut choice I doubt it would be coming last with less than 1 in 5 voting for it regardless of whether it was SMH, CM or The West Australian.

It’s well proven that people with a strong negative reaction to something are far more likely to vote in a public poll. Especially in one with only 3k respondents. Not to say most people in brisbane don’t want it but grain of salt time using that data.

PNG was voted as the least wanted expansion club, but here we are lol

I’d barely even call it data, I just commented on it being interesting Victoria Park was last in a public poll. I doubt those factors account for it coming last by such a long way.

Yeah leave Redcliffe alone thanks.

A perfect RL ground. Its not gonna be your big city 50k shithole that many of you are advocating for. It's a brilliant suburban ground that needs to stay that way until someone wants to build some apartments there.

Go refurb suncorp.

Latest Auckland news - a couple of All Blacks greats (John Kirwan, Sean Fitzpatrick) are supporting the downtown stadium/Quay Park proposal.

The shortlist is down to two - Quay Park (new build) or Eden Park V2.1 (upgrade of the existing stadium).

To quote the article, "The competing proposals were given about nine months to prepare self-funded feasibility studies – including costings and source of investments – which will be presented to council next month. A final decision is expected in the second half of this year."

Most people I know don't really give a shit. The attitudes may change closer to the Olympics though. Alot worried about next week not 8 years away.

More on Auckland's looming stadium decision...

Reminds me a lot of the Perth stadium decision that took decades. Some wanted a redeveloped Subi, some wanted a city stadium, in the end they got it right but geez it took a long time to get there!
