It’s kinda of insane how the Cowboys in Townsville can have a first class 25k stadium in the city as the only tenant and the nations capital with multiple tenants have that garbage out at Bruce.

Not really, Qlnd govt has a lot more money to spend on such things than the ACT Govt.

The electorates in North Queensland are swing seats, meanwhile the ACT is a hard labour region and it's effectively irrelevant when it comes to federal politics.

The new stadium in Townsville was one of the most blatant cases of vote buying and pork barrelling in modern Australian politics. Stuff like that simply isn't feasible in the ACT.

whoosh, you missed the point. Manuka is not even close to other city Ovals, Bruce is a long way behind other cities rectangular stadiums. It seems Canberra just doesnt like to spend on sport facilities.

Manuka looks just as poor a Bruce compared to the countries other oval stadiums.

Nah, Manuka's a hidden gem.

It's one of the better experiences for ovals in the country. It's only real issue is that it's small and there's a lack of parking, but it's capacity has slowly been increased with upgrades. The next stage in it's development is to increase it's seated capacity to 20k, which will almost certainly happen by about 2030.

There's a better than 50/50 chance that Canberra gets a BBL and Sheffield Shield team, and a very solid chance of an AFL license after that. You can expect further upgrades to Manuka if Canberra gets a BBL team, and I wouldn't rule out a push for a new oval stadium if the AFL decides it'd rather expand to Canberra and SNSW than consolidate in Perth.

Expect calls for a "multipurpose" if the AFL starts seriously sniffing around as well. That's what Barr has been positioning for anyway.

Nrl has dropped the ball on Canberra that’s true

Newcastle and the gong could do with some love too but not as urgent as Canberra

In terms of the stadium situation in the nrl Pvl gets a fail

Manuka is perfect size for a cricket ground as it will never host test matches and only minor world cup games.

It's a very 'picturesque' place.

Canberra are missing out by not building a decent rectangular stadium. Even forget about the raiders and union for a minute. Female international league, union and soccer is all going to other stadiums/cities.

I know that there is 'self government' in the ACT but as the national capital with a high profile and significance, but also a reasonably small population and land base to draw funding from, it seems reasonable that there should be some level of national assistance for major projects above and beyond what larger jurisdictions would get.

Arguably places like NSW, QLD, VIC and WA can fund their own infrastructure. When it comes to anything big, ACT cannot stand on its own two feet.

1. That'll never happen.

2. Generally speaking the ACT's impact on federal politics is so small that it wouldn't matter even if it did. Without going too deep, you'd need constitutional change that gives the ACT and NT equal rights and representation to the States for them to become genuine concerns in federal politics.

The trend in ACT politics at the moment is Labour and the Greens being attacked from the left by independents and people backed by Climate 200. A stadium being built as part of a swing to the Liberals is a complete fantasy.

No, the only realistic hope of a new rectangular stadium in Canberra anytime in the next couple decades is if the rectangular sports either; A. find a way to fund it themselves (not likely), or B. get ruthless and accept the risk of trying to force it through by embracing the dark arts (don't have the spine).

With the exception of the Warriors and Raiders, all of the "not yet there" clubs have access to modern stadiums but refuse to use them.

Who cares about Perth and Port Moresby. The PNG team is a farce and the "Perth" team would be better off lobbying for upgrades to NS Oval and the Central Coast...

Bulldogs + Tigers > New Liverpool 25k stadium, plus 2-3x big home games in Accor
Dragons > 6x Upgraded WIN and 6x Allianz
Manly > Brookvale upgrades planned
Sharks > Can't see this ever improving much
Warriors > This one is ok, eventually they should move some or all of their home games to the new Auckland stadium
Raiders > Stadium upgrade or new stadium is long overdue


I see Liverpool and Canberra as the biggest priorities for the Govt to invest in. The 40m going into Leichhardt was a mistake, they should be funnelling this money into Liverpool.


The stadium hubs in Sydney should be:
Allianz - Roosters, Souths, Dragons
Liverpool (new stadium) - Bulldogs, Tigers
Accor (new Accor with a rectangular 70k configuration) - Finals and representative games, large western sydney derbies

Parramatta is a great stadium but I'm not sure it makes sense for any team other than Parra to be playing home games there. It's too far removed from the Bulldogs and Tigers areas for them to play there instead of Liverpool.
