I’m disappointed but that stand isn’t the one that really needs to be replaced the main stand getting redone will be decent given the poor corporate facilities there now

Its $300 million to move a sewer line and make it quicker to buy a beer at the game. The stands aren't going to be much of an upgrade on what we have already.

Not worth the money spent.

So all Vlandys got out of the ACCOR Redevelopment cancellation was a POS 1980s style Grandstand at Penrith.
What an absolute joke.
It’s both grandstands to be fair

And it’s not even tied to keeping the grand final in Sydney either

If Pvl wanted to be greedy he could wait till Penrith is done then just sell the grand final to the highest bidder

The nsw govt is still paying around 8 million pa for the grand final plus spending 1.5 billion on stadia and coe

There is no question that V'Landys and Abdo are asleep at the wheel when it comes to stadium upgrades.

Every sport bar dwarf throwing and Rugby League is trying to extract a $500million - $14billion dollar facility out of the Olympics.

Today I learned all of Sydney live at Central Station.

Also 20mins. Hyperbole, much?
Since when did anyone mention “all of Sydney”?
Your original comment was referring to “Visitors” finding it a shocking venue to get to and from.
Consider most Visitors are accommodated within the Sydney CBD, the Central Station example seems quite fair.
If we talk about Locals,Sydney Olympic Park is located at the heart of demographic Sydney. It cannot be more central to the whole metropolitan area.
And yes…it is 20 minutes from Central, stopping only at Strathfield.
Even quicker from Parramatta coming the other way
Done it many many times for Olympics,Origins,GFs etc
It really isnt that difficult.

Lulz, the NFL game isn't just an exercise in dollars otherwise it'd be played in Asia

It's a marketing exercise, and any Australian experiencing their first game at the MCG is going to have a less than optimal experience.

So much so I'd assert the MCG is going to have a negative impact.

100,000 at an American Football game isn't a spectacle, it's a weekly occurrence.

Do you say "more than "8,500 at Shark Park will generate a buzz!"?

There not marketing it as a live event though, are they? It's marketing NFL the sport.

Unless you think the NFL has plans to expand to Australia soon.

There is going to be very few "new" fans attending, given how big the game is globally and in Australia.

This is more like an Oasis concert, lots of long term fans finally seeing the game live.

I'm a fairly big fan, but frankly the game live is a little bit stop start, and long, for Australian tastes.

All good stadiums should be CBD or CBD adjacent and near large entertainment precincts. They should be a short walk from a bar, or restaurant, before and after.

To have to queue for 45mins post game for the one train service to get out of the place is shitful.

I do think having a 100,000 at a non US venue is a nice story for the NFL. It's an impressive sight. 100,000 even in the US would make it the biggest NFL venue.

When ACCOR gets knocked down, the new stadium should be an 80k rectangular venue. Not 70k in previous plans, otherwise the MCG will have a bigger upper hand in landing major events.

Spoken like someone that has never stepped foot in Sydney.

Most people don't live near the CBD in most cases. So having a venue in the CBD isn't going to improve travel time.

Leaving from Allianz is no better and you certainly aren't home to say Parra any quicker.

You either have a 15-20 min walk then likely have a similar wait for a train

or you wait for the Light rail that only holds 500 people to take you to the Station and having 45k that is quite a few light rail trips before you may get on one.

So with a crowd that size you are stuffed either way

TBF Sydney is unique in the sht locations it builds its stadiums! Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane all have their stadiums well located and central with great public transport connections. Why Sydney continues to struggle to get it right only Sydney folk can say.

They also don't have the sprawl of Sydney, That is the biggest issue.

If only people in the 1800's when building places like Parramatta they thought towards sporting venues
