As others have raised, why haven't the NRL, ARU or Football lobbied for Suncorp or other rectangular venues in Brisbane?

And i guess when you look at Victoria Park, it does represent a long term solution for Cricket and Fumbles. Bear in mind that Brisbane's population will grow. Whether the Lions can fill it is another conversation.

Is upgrading Suncorp to 60k a long term solution? But first, the NRL, ARU and Football have to lobby. And they should lobby down in Canberra too.

No its not, 60k doesnt meet the need now let alone in 20 years. Would have been better to lobby for decent stadiums for Dolphins and a future SW Brisbane club at Ipswich and leave Suncorp as is for another 10-15 years or so then NRL go hard to lobby for a 70k replacement with the offer of GF's etc.

The feasibility reports seem to lean towards upgrading Eden Park - but mostly because "it's already there". Hmm...

I’d rather see a 300m Suncorp upgrade happen now than nothing happen at all for the next 20 years. Gives time for AFL to really entrench into Qld with a second Brisbane team in their fancy new home built by tax payers.

honestly there’s soccer and union in the olympics and Suncorp / rectangular sports still get totally shafted. Even Swimming could have been hosted at an upgraded Suncorp.

I bet even the SCG will get a big upgrade before we see anything happen with Accor in Sydney as well.

Suncorp is used by a variety of professional sporting clubs including regularly sell outs or close to sell out crowds. It could be used for the opening ceremony. It could be used for olympics union and soccer. And STILL it is ignored in favour of the oval stadium.

Brisbane needs a boutique rectangular stadium as well and what happens? AFL gets a boutique new stadium perfect for AFLW.

Now tell me the afl is not campaigning hard for this.

Some comments from our new sports minister on chances of HBF park upgrade as part of the introduction of an NRL club to Perth. Im guessing she hasnt been to many rectangular stadiums!

Mr Cook’s new Sports Minister Rita Saffioti told The West Australian on Monday she would not be rushed on a deal with the NRL as she prepares to spearhead negotiations and hit back at claims that HBF Park was in desperate need of redevelopment.
Ms Saffioti slammed the “snobbery” surrounding the stadium.
“We hosted a Women’s World Cup there,” she said.
“We’ve already spent millions of dollars upgrading it. Incredible new scoreboards. The change rooms were upgraded. The pitch is in very good quality, probably one of the best quality pitches going around.
“I don’t like this sort of snobbery about our HBF (Park). I think it’s pretty good.”
