The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Just be patient

The next tv deal will be the biggest in Australian sports history

And most rational people would say getting the nsw govt to spend 1.5 billion on stadia plus another 200 million on centre of excellence whilst also paying 11 million for the nrl grand final is a huge win

Commbank (before his time but still nsw govt expected to keep the grand final)
Allianz
Penrith

When it comes to getting taxpayer money afl just has no shame. Whether nrl should copy that approach is questionable
Of course the NRL is trying to copy that approach. Did they knock back the PNG cash?

PVL is great for Sydney but minimal progress anywhere else (so far).

NRL should be saying to NSW and Qlnd, whoever delivers a new stadium, or substantial upgrade, gets MR and GF for X amount of years. Lets see who is interested. Accor or Suncorp being rebuilt would be a bonus for the game.
Maybe but the nrl would be giving up payments of 15 million pa for those events would it be worth it

Long term, probably. They'd recoup the hosting right money in ticket sales and corporate sales in bigger/better stadiums for the events they would host there.
Suncorp yeh but a 70k stadium will cost billions. Money they don’t have

Accor no need it’s fine as it is for origins and gf

Spend it on Brookie Newcastle gong and other Sydney surburban grounds

They were paying to host the NRL GF before the stadium agreement took place. They've just continued to pay for it and not carry out the stadium improvements agreed with NRL. His threats are hollow. If he was serious the Gf would be on the open market every year for bids. But it isnt, and NSW Govt knows it never will be.
Yet the nsw gov are paying more than they ever used to. Why would they if they know, as you say, that the gf will never go to another state, despite bids from other states? You’re being contrarian for sake of it, there are plenty of reasons to criticise V’landys, forcing gov to bid on events is not one of them, it would be negligent not to and it’s what he should have done with the broadcast rights.

PVL is only Chairman of the ARLC. His paying job is CEO of Racing NSW. As such he doesn't have the time to be everywhere, let alone the connections I suspect in Qld. I would have asked where are the Qld members from the ARLC? They should have been front and centre if anyone of the Commissioners were to be.

Magic round in Sydney would be a sight to behold if all the Sydney clubs and fans went all in.
Magic round at SFS would have 0 problem selling out 3 days in a row.

It is 100% a viable alternative to Suncorp.

Friday

Manly v Knights
Roosters v Broncos

Saturday

PENRITH v Cowboys
Wests v Warriors
Souths v Storm

Sunday

Sharks v Raiders
Dogs v Dolphins
Dragons v Parra

BYE; Titans

Except we swap all the home teams just for the lols

Non of those stadiums gives a return to NRL bottom line. Probably why NRl in recent years has done little to advocate for club venue upgrades.

I thought it was a hollow threat? At least keep your nonsense consistent.
Current taking it away is a hollow threat, offering it up as a guarantee in future, not so hollow.

Yet the nsw gov are paying more than they ever used to. Why would they if they know, as you say, that the gf will never go to another state, despite bids from other states? Then why not put it on the open market every year if the threat is genuine? See what its true value is.

It does, that’s why each year nsw have to bid for it! It is on the open market until nsw secure a multi year deal. Why is this soo difficult for you to comprehend?

Yep, just like with tv rights negotiations, the commissioners need to play their part as well, otherwise what is the point of having an independent commission.

Don't rely on the CEO and Chairman to do everything.

There’s a lot of people furious that there’s been no upgrade to Perry Park, which would be a good candidate for a 20k boutique rectangular stadium. And nothing announced for Suncorp..

The two venues put forward for Olympic soccer won’t be enough to host the full soccer tournament. I am thinking discussions are still ongoing about other venues, maybe it’s wishful thinking but perhaps there might be further announcements of upgrades. Cbus, Lang Park and an upgraded Perry park would round out the venues for Olympic soccer.

Getting 200m for Perry park and 300m for Suncorp upgrades would be the least rugby league and rectangular sports deserve for their top flight competitions.

At least a mid-life upgrade including 60k seats for Lang Park will tide us over for the next 15-20 years. I can’t see the government spending 4-5B for a brand new lang park anytime soon after the Olympics - it just won’t happen
