Just have the 400, 800, 1500 etc at the Gabba.Do you suggest they just run every race more than 100m back and forth?

The money is there to be spent on the Olympics, not a rectangular stadium. So they are using temporary seating at Sunshine Coast and maybe Barlow park for the Olympic Games together with permanent stands
The athletics stadium should’ve been 30k permanent capacity and the rest temp seats
The 3 billion saved could’ve gone to a 70k new rectangular stadium
The qld opposition are making a huge issue of this with spending on hospitals being canned for it so the govt might end up being one term
Wasn't Stadium Australia supposed to be converted to rectangular after the Olympics until that AFL intervened?
It sounds like if the 65000 seat stadium is built properly (eg step grandstands like that perth stadium) it could be converted to rectangular after and be used for origin, magic round, rugby, soccer and grand finals. NRL needs to be all over this.
Exactly, make it with good rake, a square end on the south side and a temporary oval end at the north and happy endings.Just the ends would’ve been rectangular
Main stands are built too far away and have a poor rake. The poor design of those stands has nothing to do with the Olympics just a bad architect
Suncorp was modelled on the mistakes of Homebush then commbank copied and improved on the rake
Didn’t think of thatExactly, make it with good rake, a square end on the south side and a temporary oval end at the north and happy endings.
No one that has ever been to the Gabba would suggest using it for serious events.Just have the 400, 800, 1500 etc at the Gabba.
The olympics is/are lowering its/they/their expectations and glamor anyway and are happy for crap cities like Brisbane to host for example. I think fibro stadiums would be fine.No one that has ever been to the Gabba would suggest using it for serious events.
By 2032, we'll have Olympics putt-putt or laser tag. We need to save the Gabba for them.
Lang Park is 20 years old and it never gets filled eitherQld tax payers would be spitting chips if the design of this thing is to fit in with AFL/Cricket. Neither of those even threaten to fill a 40k stadium.
AFL has a long history of demanding $$ spent on grounds then abandoning them eg that one in Penrith, Stadium Australia, now the Gabba talk and so on.
Peter V needs to step in here - for the tax payer. There is still plenty of time.
The roof on Accor idea keeps popping up I see. That would be worst case scenario long term, needs a knockdown & rebuild, put a roof on it after that if you need to.
Not fan of the idea of putting on a roof on Accor. That only solves the problem for concerts and events but does nothing for rugby league. Putting a roof on it will delay any new rectangular stadium build for the next 20 years.
