Btw I like how Albo rightly says that Accor is merely a ‘good’ stadium, and not built for rectangular sports.

Is that going to be a tenable position for the nsw government and city of Sydney where the main stadium, supposed national stadium, is merely ‘good’ and is not even built to support the sports that are the main tenants? This is the view of the prime minister.
It souths leave there’s less reason for an upgrade

Definitely exaggerated. A 35 degree pitch, same as the end at Tottenham's stadium. Really nice stadium in any case.

Personally I prefer stadiums with stacked tiers, like Suncorp, New Highmark Stadium, or Tottenham's remaining stand. Regardless of the rake, the height provides better viewing IMO.

That’s going to create some atmosphere with 52k fans in there.

just hope we can pull off a win to go into the headingley test 2-nil up 😉

Souths want to move because currently there is no planned upgrade of Accor stadium. Souths and Canterbury were promised in the past and nothing eventuated.

We know that. What you have ignored though is that Souths CEO, Blake Solly, signed a new lease for Souths to play out of Accor after having been told, and it being publicly announced, that Accor wouldn't be getting any upgrades.

Their carry on about the move is because of his crappy decision more than anything else.

Nah, fully aware of it. Then Premier Gladys Berejiklian abandoned plans for Accor to be refurbished in May 2020 due to Covid. Then in November 2021, Blake Solly signed a new agreement to keep Souths at Accor with the knowledge that the venue would not get upgraded.

But prior to that Souths and Canterbury were promised by the state government that Accor was going to get redeveloped.

Even if Souths were to return to Allianz, down the track, Accor or Stadium Australia may finally get redeveloped or a new stadium. Both Allianz and Accor are under the Venus NSW umbrella. There is no SCG Trust or Stadium Australia Group anymore.

IMO Venus NSW may convince Souths to return to a new Accor to make it viable with more content. It could be in Accor's long term interests to allow Souths to walk right now.

Not the greatest fan of Buzz Slothfield, but he has a tip regarding Accor Stadium. Did come across the "Off The Record" podcast or episode with Andrew Webster on youtube.

With the state election in a couple of years, he reckons that once the doctors, nurses, train drivers, paramedics, school teachers get a pay rise, that NSW Premier Chris Minns could be in a position to announce a $600 million funding for Accor where the stadium could be converted into a rectangle, plus a roof.

Last year Taylor Swift did three concerts according to Buzz. I think it was four. But he heard that if the stadium was weather proof, then Swift may have done eight shows.

Only time will tell. If there is a redevelopment, i hope it stays at the same capacity or beyond not 70k or 75k.

Here is the link to the podcast. Around the 45 min mark, Slothfield reveals his tip!

Theoretically, it should be more because they will drop the field a few metres and bring the seating forward to suit a rectangular field. So, in theory, the capacity should increase.

If that’s the deal to keep the grand final in Sydney the arl should run a million miles

They get no real benefit

Maybe roof will help dogs games but it won’t help origin or grand finals sell more

Also, it may be the reason why they might be letting the rabbits move to the sfs next season. It will be fantastic news if the nsw govt does announce the redevelopment. It will give 50-60k spectators a perfect view of the game.

You would still have the top tiers far away. Maybe this is stage 1. The MCG completed The Great Southern Stand in 1992. Now it is known aa Shane Warne Stand. While in 2006, the northern side of the ground was done.

Blow it up and start again.

It looks like the scg will get its big upgrade sooner to 60k.

leave Accor as is, and rebuild it in the 2030s when it’s in more desperate need for an upgrade. Host the grand final at the 60k scg when Accor is getting upgraded

It’ll take a lot more than $600m for that Accor plan, maybe $600m NSW Government then a substantial top up from the Feds.

There’s already a perfectly fine 43k seat stadium at Allianz

Dogs don’t even plan on staying there long term

It’s a stadium for event games that’s it

And getting to Allianz isn’t much more difficult than Accor for most people

I wonder if the NRL could buy a piece of stadium australia. Like I mean one end. Go halves with the government in redoing the end so it is awesome (similar to the Parra Stadium ends) and so on. The ends are the worst part. Then rebuild the rest over the years in parts.
