Hopefully they can commit a certain amount then bring the state government to the table to commit the rest?

Tigers want up to 100 million

Council asking for some govt assistance

Look like they will approve ten million and get the feds and state to come up with 40 million to match leichardt oval upgrades

Surely a council doesn't have stadium rebuild sort of money? Id have thought it'd be dependent on getting State funding?

There will be an extraordinary council meeting tomorrow at 5:15pm, so we know more afterwards. Tigers have given the council a one month extension. Looking towards $100 million in funding which could be done in two stages.

NRL still doesn't have much political clout in NSW.

yeah billion dollar sporting organisations don’t get to tell the state what to do … is that a bad thing ? Does that happen in WA?

Do you favour Souths in this ? They ultimately signed a contract to get paid $$$ to play at Accor …according to Paul Kent, Accor also spent money on exclusive dressing rooms at the ground to accommodate them …now they seem a bit jealous of their rivals … perhaps the contract should have been a bit tighter to protect their interests if the stadium was not being renovated …or maybe they just preferred to take the money

also I recall when they moved there originally … Richardson said they did extensive research that Accor is actually closer for the majority of their fans … seems a bit silly to be moving to a stadium further away from those fans given the Sydney transport issues which you are so familiar

Even if that happens which seems unlikely, thats still only half the money

That stadium at Barbados cricket ground looks like something that could be built for under 10mill (it looks temporary) and you could build something similar at either end of stadium Australia until they decide to properly fix it up.

I'm glad Souths are still fighting. It will always be ridiculous to me that we have a world class stadium in Sydney and only one NRL team uses it full time.

City of Sydney join Rabbitohs’ bitter Allianz Stadium fight
Souths and their benefactors have clearly found an enemy in the roosters here but this actually has nothing to do with the roosters and souths have only themselves to blame.

They are the ones that signed and extended their contract to play games at Accor until 2030. They signed this deal in 2020, well after the original SFS had closed and been demolished. Had they not signed that extension they would be at the SFS now and there is nothing the roosters could do about it.

They also cite the motivation for their move as being closer to their fans which is laughable given that's the exact reason they moved in the first place. What it's about is getting better crowds and making more money which is absolutely fine, just be honest about it. The government is well within their rights to hold their ground here as they promise sponsors, corporates, local employers etc a certain amount of events at Accor and souths are a key part of that.

Keep in mind that I'm on record as wanting souths to move back to the SFS, it would be great for not only them but the game in general and the roosters would benefit too. However, this narrative that it's our fault is absolute nonsense. Souths management are solely to blame for this.

I don’t think anyone is really to blame. Unfortunately Covid just f**ked everything up. No one would have predicted that to happen.

Regardless if the NSW government doesn't want to do anything with Accor for the moment, Souths should be able to negotiate a release out of there. It’s hurting the club staying there

Souths got offered a very sweet Accor deal and took it. Sucks and was short sighted but its their own decisions thats got them here. At least with 3 games a year at Allianz its a start to them eventually moving there FT.

I heard a different version of events from Blake Solly so I don't know which version to believe. But you're right 3 games is better than none.

He’s full of it

He got offered a reduced rent to stay there with no stadium upgrades and he took it

Now he’s trying to pressure the govt into letting him out of his mistake by basically lieing and saying stadium upgrades were promised

I want to see souths move but not until Solly puts his hand up and admit his mistake

Shows how bad the club are being run that they have kept such a poor ceo for so long

Hopefully they e choose those three games for reciprocal membership games and help fill stadiums when they play that team there.

Roosters, Eels and Tigers would make sense to play there then Souths members could get into the reciprocal away games free, and likewise those clubs fans get into Allianz free. A good way to get more 30k+ crowds and add value to full memberships. Add in Bulldogs at Accor and Souths members could effectively get another 4 games for little extra cost for their ticketed membership. That's where clubs in Sydney need to get much smarter!

I wouldnt say they are run poorly, they are in top 5 for most off field metrics.
