Is there anyone who actually wants that?
Who is asking for it?
The retractable roof option is being pushed by event promoters.
Considering they will probably sell out Accor around 12 times just in 2025,a roof, understandably would be an advantage in securing new acts.
Ideally, both the seating reconfiguration and roof would be the best option, but its clear the NSW ALP dont plan to spend any money on construction.

This time last year the SMH reported that the business case for a roof at ACCOR was almost finished. Was that ever completed and released?

Maybe for accor they should do what they've done at Wembley where the end roof sections retract far back on nice days and to give the grass sunlight to grow on non game days then in inclement weather, or to cover the stage for concerts they can pull them far forward to give full cover to the end stands with a drip line beyond to cover the stage area? Would be much cheaper than a full roof and give the protection from rain fans and artists are looking for.

Accor has enough space outside the stadium to have a retractable pitch like the Sapporo Dome, Las Vegas and Arizona NFL stadiums.

If it ever gets knocked down any rebuild should allow for moving the pitch outside.

Can then be used for every event possible without damaging the field.

On a positive. Accor has gone well past its mid life point. Hopefully!

Out of the stadium’s run by Venues NSW

Wollongong
Accor
Newcastle
SCG

which one gets the next upgrade?
SCG could have a leg up with two major tenants in VFL and cricket.

Maybe Wollongong because would require a smaller investment compared to the rest?
Some interesting politics to play out in next couple years.

Pretty sure I remember reading many moons ago that the big steel arch trusses that run along the sidelines in the Accor roof were designed or at least engineered to be able to hold up a fully retractable roof, the only reason it was never installed was cost and a feeling that it wasn't needed.

But obviously needs/desires change after 25 years and it would be helpful now with how many rain affected games we seem to get.
