Any rebuilt Stadium Australia would have a capacity of 80 to 90k. The capacity will never be reduced. Sydney and Australia needs a large scale rectangular stadium. Anything under 80k is too small.

There is also absolutely NO NEED for a roof to ever be built on a stadium in Australia.It is such a waste of money and defeats the purpose of playing an outdoor sport.
The only exception would be Canberra.

Wasn't the scrapped plan (due to COVID) for Accor Stadium going to lower the capacity to 70k?

Dogs look like that’s their long term stadium. Even a 40k stadium as proposed in Liverpool could be too small for them long term.

It’s literally a drop in the ocean of what they spend a year

MCG is asking for 2 billion and the Victorian govt is broke

A new accor will cost a minimum of 2 billion. Something good maybe double

Wa built a 3 billion stadium with a smaller economy

Victoria park is estimated to cost up to 5 billion.

Brisbane Olympic Stadium will cost around 4 billion for 63k seats. Now add another 37k seats what do you think the budget will be lol. There is no logical reason for the NSW government to invest in a 100k stadium.

A metro and roads are more important to the city than a 100k stadium.

They are running the metro to go right past Accor stadium for a reason

Sydney’s population has grown by 1.4 million since stadium Australia was built

I think your obsession with beating the AFL is blinding you here.

For Rugby League, we don't need a huge ass 100k stadium. We need a stadium with amazing sightlines, an awesome atmosphere and a venue where fans want to show up every week. Basically a bigger Suncorp for Sydney. For the NSW government, they want value for money. What we don't need is another white elephant.

Anything between 60-80k can probably accomplish that. A few people on here want 80k and that's fine, but I want the overall experience to come first before how many people it can fit. And don't underestimate building costs.

Once again, there comes a point where it's financially just not worth adding more seats. There were talks about the Brisbane Olympic Stadium being around 80k capacity but they decided on 63k due to costs. You don't just keep adding seats and use population growth as an excuse.

The NSW government doesn't have a limitless budget. They will want value for money in any project they build. My point is I want to see the spectator experience to come first over how many seats it can hold. 10 times out of 10 I would pick a SI-FI or an Allegiant over a Wembley or MCG.

I did say discussions could be held after the RWC and Accor doesn't need to be done tomorrow . Yes, Canberra is the most urgent, but i am not sure if Brookie would get any funding from state government.

Given the nsw govt are such tightasses on spending on rugby league stadia and the arl seem overwhelmed with managing expansion and the tv deals think it’s about picking your battles

Given the cost of a new stadium at Homebush all the other nsw stadia should be prioritised first

You could do Newcastle to 40k, Brookie to 30k and gong to 30k for under a billion and get a lot of benefit for league

Even if they built a new accor today I would argue the game gets little actual benefit as marquee games sell out regardless

If they do spend 3 billion or so on a new Accor there won’t be any other stadium upgrades for ages

Raiders need a 30k roofed stadium and the arl need to prioritise lobbying for this

Lobbying for league stadiums the commission is clueless

Considering the "schools not stadiums" catchcry when the ALP was in Opposition which they used against Allianz's re-design (and before that the now aborted refurb of Accor), I wouldn't hold out much hope of any significant money on stadiums spent in Sydney during the next 2-4 years somehow.

Many of the NSW ALP parliamentarians who pushed that line in public are now Ministers.
