Not having a dig mate, it is a good signing. And while not cheap, the sharks are in a far better position than the raiders, who are unable to sign top players regardless of what they offer.

Ennis...$1/2 million. I don't believe it.
Also, would somebody who actually knows the truth about our club's current situation please explain why we don't get top players to sign. (We did a cpouple of years ago?). We have a beautiful area - beaches, shopping centres, transport as good as any in Sydney, a wonderful place for a young family. Is it ASADA? Is it the coaches? Whatever? Many of you are saying top players will not sign with us. WHY??????????????

I know a younger player who had an offer to sign with us. He's no world beater but he chose elsewhere. His reasons were coaching and facilities, the joint seems second rate. Also did not rate flanno and didn't trust him to play him. He knows a few established nrl players and they all say the same thing. One chose parra over us last year or the season before because of the difference in professionalism. Its a perception thing I reckon.

It can't be the boxing ring. Bought that on eBay and Flanno installed it himself. If that ain't professionalism I don't know what is.

In all seriousness, if you were a top line player why the hell would you play for Cronulla.
1. asada unresolved
2. Team running last
3. No influence, therefore less rep opportunitities
4. Facilities and football department poor compared to big clubs
5. No money and limited third party options (should change in a few years)
6. No history of consistent success
7. Coaching staff have not got great reputations

We are the ugly red headed step kid of the NRL. The club is not respected at all and most of it is due to poor management. We did land some good signings in recent years. Mostly as the players were not wanted at current clubs. Flanno did well to get Fifita through negotiation. In reality he is the only one who improved at the club. Carney, Lewis, Gordon etc all played better elsewhere.

The Shire is a nice place to live but half of the NRL live there and don't play for us. Gallen has been an attraction but he only has a couple of years left. We are going to have to wait until we get clear of asada and get development money so we can improve the football department and shift the perception that we are a basket case.

Compare the coverage that St George got for needing 2 million from the NRL or Newcastle being taken over by the NRL to us. They are barely mentioned yet our issues are magnified and debated ad nauseum.

Yup. I reckon this closes off about 2/3rds of the threads in here, and a fair few in the troll cave and nrl forum. Just copy and paste weapon.

It comes down to two things.
1. Talent identification. In a salary capped league, money ball thinking is critical. Building a team, signing players with upside, signing a veteran who can fill a gap etc. It is about finding value and getting the players in the positions to improve the team.
2. Talent development. Bringing players through who become high quality first graders is cheaper than signing them when established.

We haven't been great at either but in fairness we haven't had the funds to get the right people in the roles.

How is he any better than what we already have?

Unless he's cheaper he's a pointless signing.
