terraces are the life and soul of a british sporting experience ......football fans are really envious of us RL fan who are still allowed to stand up and jump around like loons.....

Salford were just to ambitious in there first design.

If they had just designed a really nice 12,000 to 14,000 stadium they would have a really nice one. What they did is design an over the top stadium which then got reduced several times leaving one really good stand, and three not so good.

With regards to the costs the Roughy, does that include land? I'd imagine the land around the Trafford Centre is more expensive.

Surely that's just the construction costs...

Can't wait to see the Rotheram stadium when it's complete...

can't imagine that land being expensive at all.....its a good walk from the trafford center, well over a mile according to google earth and thats as the crow flies,on the opposite side of the motorway and was a boggy wasteland.......plus i think peel already owned the land anyway?

A mile isn't that far from the Trafford centre considering everything else around there. All visable from Barton bridge.

If they already owned it fair enough but they want to build a massive dock there on the ship canal so the land is worth something. Part of Peels attempt to take over the world or something.

A big development on the Wirral side of the Mersey, docks in Moore and Warrington, finshed by a huge facility at Barton to service Manchester. I think thats why they were interested in the ground, as a way to develop the land and get permissions. Originally the ground was going to be linked to the Uni though. But i honestly don't know.

The land costs are in the budget of a stadium. You need to buy the land to build on it. Thats why stadiums in London are so expensive.

at the end of the day if you look at the 2 project from a design point of view salford have cocked up massively considering rotherhams new stadium is quite clearly a scaled down version of salfords first design...

Completely agree.

If Salford had started with the scaled down version then they would of built a nice ground.

As it is they have ended up with one nice stand and three not so good ones. Which i doubt will change as they won't get the crowds to justify it.

Sorry for digressing about land value etc. Not really important at the end of day. Especially as Salford didn't build the thing.

I hope they don't become like Leigh, and get bigger debts with no way to pay them off due to a council run stadium.

I think Salford's design is based on the premise that they can expand it to 20,000 in the future, whereas I'm not sure whether Rotherham will be able to. Whether Salford actually will ever expand the stadium is a different story, but it did look quite nice from the artist's impression when expanded.

it'll be along time before salford will need to expand their stadium

and say rotherhams stadium was a RL ground you could have terracing....so technically you could expand on the 12k capacity by taking out the seats..

all seated - 12k
3 seated stands + 1 terrace end - 13-14k
2 seated + 2 terraced ends - 14-15k

terrace a goal end & touchline stand and the capacity could well be 16-17k

theres ways of increasing capacity without the need for major and expensive structural changes

Watching the hull derby from craven park. What's happening with the ends of this stadium? One looks like it is a carpark and the spectators are about 50 metres away at the other end!

The end that looks like a car park has been cleared in preparation for the new North Stand which is what was shown on that picture. The other side is being used as an away stand in the meantime, but it's inadequate. The initial plan was to demolish the existing terracing and move the temporary stand that was previously at the North end in its place, but I believe the temporary stand was deemed to be unsafe so that end will probably just stay as it is for now.

would have made a great RL stadium that :(

as for hull kr......can't help feeling they should have built a new main stand instead of replacing the golf stand.

It'll be a shame when the day comes that you don't get that wind whipping through Craven Park from one end to the other!

Extending the current main stand to the full length of the pitch would have meant HKR paying for it, this new stand is being paid for by the council and others because of the facilities housed in it that they'll be using.
