It's nothing news unless it comes with a "contracts mean something" clause.

Doesn't in any way guarantee he'll stay for the whole contract.

I wonder how many get out clauses are in it.

At least the club will get a 10 year player discount for some of the expenditure.

I hope they have saved enough to buy a playmaker

I had Gallen out the door. I thought he would be out of here pretty quickly. I don't know what the change has been but it's a tremendous effort.

I would much prefer this type of news going into the season than what Fraser Anderson decided to pull last year.

You are clearly a dillusional clown Dragon Slayer. Gall will still be pumping out the excellent performances and intimidating the opposition at the age of 32, just look at Hindy and Fitzy, and consider that Gall is actually better than both these guys.

Ok don't know why you got personal with me and didn't just debate the issue.

History shows that a lot of NRL players form can dramatically slide once they hit 30. Let alone 31, 32, 33.

If you look at the amount of players in the NRL in each team who are in the over 30 age bracket it dramatically tails off in numbers.

Not many make it.

I'd rather spend top dollar on a game breaker than an ageing backrower.

I'm sure Parramatta regret signing Cayless on a huge long contract at the back end of his career. He has been a passenger in the team for 2 years at least!

Hope so Coolum.

But f**k if it goes pear shaped in two years time there goes a fair chunk of the salary cap.

mind you, he was on average wage after taking a massive paycut to help the club out..

he is an International and State of Origin rep and does have 4 good years left in him..stop being a negative bastard DS, your catching the SSB and Redback syndrome..

I agree with DS on this one.

It's too long a contract. What if this shoulder of his has turned to glass?

Sign 25 year olds to long deals not 29 year olds.

The salary cap is all about why all these long contracts are coming out.
Whatever we paid Gallen, the games best forward, was not enough in my opinion. & I think the duration was too Short.
Now to sure up all the other guys prior to the IC & tv rights deals.

Gallen is a current Test footballer and I believe he will be for another 2 or 3 years. Lets be honest, if we didn't sign him, someone else in the NRL would have snapped him up quick smart.

EVERY player signing is a financial risk.

I am more delighted in the fact that we have actually kept a player who I thought would walk. The positive is that we are getting the off field operations heading in the right direction.

Ok very good point.

More TV money in a couple years time, larger salary cap, higher pay demanded by players.

We may have nabbed him very cheap.

In relation to this I heard the reason Mortimer signed a 2 year deal only was for this reason.

He wanted to see the dollars on offer when the new T.V deal gets done.

I'm sure a lot of players agents will be offering similar advice to people signing this year.

Yeah fair enough Fizman some good points there.

It was just the 4 year contract for a 29 year old that pricked the ears up.

Accepted unders for his last contract, I'm happy with this signing. I see him returning to captaincy next year if Baz retires.

As others have said though, no doubt there is a number of get out clauses in the contract, and I'll be surprised if he doesn't consider the UK in a couple of years. By that stage Milo, Bukuya and a number of other young backrowers will be well established as first graders.

Nobody can begrudge this bloke being well paid or looked after by our club.

How many times in the past few seasons have we seen him bust his friggin ring for 80 minutes only to trudge off on the losing side.

Or rush up to smash blokes for 5 tackles only to find himself standing behind the post waiting for the conversion because some other peaheart missed the only tackle they had make for the last 20 minutes on the 6th.

And still he wants to carry on doing the same thing for our mob when every top club would've offered him just as much when he came off contract.

He must have a fair bit of optimism about the future - maybe he's happy with the way some of the newbies are shaping up at training. .

There was a very famous quote from David Waite when Paul Harragon was thinking of going to Manly. He said "When you are on the podium on Grand Final day and you look down, what colour socks do you want to be wearing?"

I think the same can be said of Gallen.
