Gallens Contract and Future

The drums are beating louder that Gals contract talks have ground to a halt.

I am led to believe there is a real Mexican stand off (so racialist!) happening between Gal and the club hierarchy. It is worth noting at this point that Flano is not as silly as he seems and has firmly moved into Gormans camp in order to sure up his position.

The obvious issue is that both the club management and the coaching staff want more games out of Gal. Gal feels that he has gone over and above for the club for many, many years and should be able to call his own tune. He still wants to box and play rep football.

The money isn't really the issue. I don't understand the full salary cap repercussions but Gals long term dispensation at around $300k (don't quote me on that) means that no other club will go close to matching our offer AND it has very little impact on our overall cap position.

The stinger for Gal is that the interest from other clubs is mild at best and all of them want to restrict him to no rep football, unless it is at a dog of a club like the Titans. The possibility of him going to England is still very real as they now have a marquee player allowance (i.e you can pay one player what you want) in Super League.

Interesting times ahead.

I love Gal. He has done a lot of the club, but he is really pushing his luck here.

Whilst Gal has shown loyalty to the club, the club has also shown loyalty to him as well.

I support the clubs stance here. We haven't got much value at of him for the last 2-3 years, and unless he commits to the club 100%, why should we push on for another year where he plays 50% of games.

Got to take the emotion out of it. He's old, he has barely played for us the last few years. I dont think we can let him do both (rep footy and boxing) but I can see him getting his way on one of them.

Tough 1, he's served the club very well but we need value for money.

Gal will definetely want to play SOO next year - won't want to go out after a humiliating loss like that.

Gallen will get his way as he always does with us.

We will bend over and take it from him.

Not with Lyall Gorman in charge. The proof is in how long it's taking to get this sorted and Gals comments about how frustrated he is on MMM last week.

wont play SOO in England.

But he could get 1.2 million for one year. Marwan Koukash, Leeds or Warrington have that sort of money to throw around for a marquee.

When push comes to shove, you watch Gallen get what he wants.

He will be here next year, money will be to his satisfaction and he will be picked in Origin as Loz will back him again.

The club won't have the power to not allow him to play rep footy if he qualifies. No matter how much they dislike it.

The issue now isn't whether we should keep him or not due to SoO, etc, its that he's incredibly bitter with the club, bitter with the coach and the fans, thinks he's 'owed one' for attracting players to them, thinks the club should give him whatever he wants and is gonna be a cranky little shit while he martyrs himself...

Remember in one of Gorman's earliest interviews when he was talking about no one player being bigger than a club in reference to some Italian guy at the Wanderers? No doubt he's starting to see the danger of Gallen's ego, if he wasn't prepared for that already.

Whatever happens now is going g to be damaging. Either Fallen whines and bleats about his treatment and moves on, or he says and he's pissed with everyone for f**king him over.

And that's exactly why the club will buy his silence.

They'll put up with it for one more year because of all the other years that have come before it.

Club captain, Origin captain, hall of fame shark etc etc.

He will get everything he wants behind the scenes.

The fresh start that Gorman envisages won't happen until Flanno and Gallen are gone and he probably knows it.

I agree with that. I keep a pretty close eye on most of the forums and facebook groups and over the past couple of years the opinion of supporters has certainly evolved. Although he has never been popular outside Sharks circles his star is certainly falling amongst supporters of the club. The number of people who love him seems to fall weekly.

I would say sharks supporters fall into 3 categories on him.

"Good player but never plays for us". 60%
"Giant ego and sook who puts himself first, get rid of him." 20%
"Sharks champion, absolute legend, we are lucky to have him." 20%

Well how come he hasn't signed? His club approached management at the start of the season? He's been offered a contract but doesn't like the terms.

Which is fine if he has a long game...

Planning for 2017 to be our first big season is a decent enough plan, dumb Flanno, be rid of Gallen, bring through the youth...

he is not value for money.
considering we have this exhibition series mid year that is bigger than the league.

but he is a great player when hes there.

i wouldn't begrudge him leaving.
but i don't think the club owes him
