Gallop not interested in RU merger

Funny how every single Union match I have been to (S14 etc, Bledisloe Tests, RUWC including opening, semi and final), this is how much I forked out of my wallet......

$0

Why? It is the corporate dollar that is buying vast swathes of the tickets.

I find that I don't get offered this as much in League outside of SOO and Finals/GF, because everyone goes for different clubs.

There is a new player in town mopping up these theatergoers these days (yes, I went for the piss, not the game), it is called the Socceroos. Hottest trough ticket in town.

Union is pharked, it will be a slow roasting financial death.

The reunification is inevitable. It was one game, 100 years of separation has changed both games to the point where they are nearly unable to be put back together. All i know is that Union fans wont accept anything other than a heavily Union based game and Leage fans likewise. Fact remains that it needs to happen, and when it does we will have an international game far beyond anything the AFL could ever possibly imagine.

Yeah what are you talking about hanscholo? AFL are not international. Cant put it any other way, if there was a sport where it was only played in 2 countries, that would be more international than AFL. League is international, but admittedly not nearly as international as Union.

if it were our rules then i wouldnt mind so much.

a merger would offer the sport a proper national competition in england when neither really is. unions clubs in the north are weak / average at best.

in australia we could have 2 brisbane teams, a perth team, the waratahs and roosters could merge and same with the brumbies and raiders.

our stronger club competitions would go with their stronger internationals

we would blow AFL off the park in australia and the game would grow massively.

of course i would only support it if it were our rules only. all of them, no negotiations

I think for the international aspect to be taken seriously, you need to have numerous nations which are well equipped on any given day to put up a challenge to the sport which is dominated by 3 sides. Its that integrity which makes international sport so appealing. Soccer has it, basketball has it, Union is so-so, it definitely has a foothold.

How sad sport has become that we are talking about merging these codes to suite the corporates. Pathetic really.

I'm not sure it's inevitable mate. If it happened, it would have to occur at an international level wouldn't? While I can (one day) see both sides coming to the party here I can't see it happening in the Northern Hemisphere. Union have smothered RL in France and our game is no threat to them in Britain. So why would they merge?

I cant see it happening tbh. Club Union is too strong in the UK, and Club League, though not thatstrong is very proud and independent. They would never agree, no matter how good the money or argument for it might be

Never.

f**k Union.

Spend 100 years trying to kill off our game then try to start unification talks when they're on their deathbed in Australia?

If we start talks with Union with a view to unification, I for one will never darken the door of a match again. If we start a hostile takeover, I'll be the first one in line.

And if it ever happened, if the Rugby codes unified, AFL would take over the whole of Australia in a nano-second.

U think the ARU and NZRU would join up with the NRL.
