Galvin v the Tigers

I've got no way of knowing this, because I'm not a Tigers fan nor am I in that environment...but sending Galvin down to NSW Cup struck me as a completely emotive decision. I know we've heard conflicting reports, but it seems to boil down to the fact that either the senior players went to Benji, or Benji went to the senior players, to say 'shall we not play Galvin this week'. And I doubt that was based on shielding him from fan flak.

The Tigers fans on here seem like good people, so it doesn't fill me with any sort of glee to say this...but the past week seems to have highlighted that this club has a long, long way to go and any enthusiasm about an upswing in fortunes might need to be tempered. This week called for cool, calm, professional heads, and none were forthcoming. Only a marquee player making mutinous social media posts, a big signing winger who couldn't keep his mitts off socials either then couldn't handle his emotions on the weekend, a coach who didn't pick his best 6 then couldn't pilot his side to a win over the bottom-placed team, and a CEO who failed to keep a lid on all of the above.

No doubt there's talent at the Tigers now but they need a lot more professionalism than the last week has offered up to go anywhere meaningful.
The Tigers club have a massive chip on there shoulder

They always seem like a club so keen on there image of not being pushed over by anyone they find themselves in situations they make more of a mess of then it has to be.

Is it the joint venture that causes this chip they have where Wests & Balmain dont get on.

The administration have banned half the board from entering one of there leagues club.

Like how are the players supposed to get on if the boardroom dont.

But as he said that’s a very hard sell by a player whose restraint only kicks in if a club actually wants to sign that player for above the current total cap amount. You can’t claim restraint of trade if no one actually wants to pay you what you’re demanding.

Another superleague group are the only ones who would challenge the salary cap. And more likely they just breakaway from comp altogether rather than challenge anything.

You've also got that it was seen as an existing reasonable restraint during the draft case.

It's also easy to paint the fragility of the clubs as predominantly not-for-profits with limited access to capital and requiring that control of total wages because the majority of the revenue pool is communal and difficult to grow.

So having that ensures the long term survival.

The first part of your post is 100% correct, however there are reasons for this. No club has been pulled apart by personal vendettas from player managers, the media and just some extreme bad luck like we have over the past 10 years. A lot of it is on the club, Im more critical of them than anyone else on this forum. However seeing a headline article saying that two more players have complained about bullying, for a formal retraction of that story less then 24 hours later is part and parcel of what the club puts up with on a nearly weekly basis.

Wests and Balmain not getting on has basically nothing to do with the Wests Tigers Football club these days. Anyway its only Wests Campbelltown and they also hate Wests Ashfield plus are only involved in the juniors these days.

The banned parties are former board members, again this was mis reported by the media. If you ask me anyone who had anything to do with the club from 2015-2023 should be shot from a cannon into the sun anyway.

Richardson is a very abrasive personality, he always gets on the front swinging, however he also has more then three decades of results behind him. As a fan and 23 year no member I do feel that the club is finally moving in the right direction, this whole mess is definetly a speed bump and may derail most of this season, however this time next year it will be forgotten about and the club will be better for it whatever the outcome.

can we retrospectively drop him for easter monday?
He dropped himself for 10 minutes ;)

My issue if I was a Tigers fan would be the lack of genuine leaders at that club. Shane Richardson is definitely one, he's been there done that. Api, I would call a strong leader. But you're clawing at air to find too many others...Luai is a maverick, even Benji is an inexperienced NRL coach who could do with an assistant who had runs on the board.

# Bullying Claims

Galvin’s legal team confirmed in an email to this masthead on Tuesday that they were seeking urgent mediation to resolve the issues between the Tigers and their brightest young star.

While they declined to elaborate on their areas of concern, it is understood they stretch beyond the social media missives from teammates Jarome Luai and Sunia Turuva last week that were interpreted as criticism of the teenage playmaker.

Richardson was not happy with the Turuva post in particular, but he bristled at suggestions of bullying at the Tigers.

Asked about the allegations, Richardson said: “They’re not true. I can’t comment about legal cases for obvious reasons but of course we’ll contest it.“

"If you have ever played in a team, there are emotional things in a team. This is not your mate down the road, this is a football team that’s building itself together.“

" I don’t think Luai’s (post) was too bad but certainly Turuva’s shouldn’t have happened and I have spoken to Turuva about it.“

But emotions happen. To try to control emotions, it’s impossible in rugby league.”

# Galvin's Future

He’s never requested (a release). The bottom line from the club’s point of view, is he is here for the next 18 months. Football players are all about winning games.“

I don’t care who you are, where you are, they want to win the game. Now last week they didn’t feel like they could win a game, or the coach didn’t think they could win (with Galvin in the team).

“This week they feel they can. From my point of view, I don’t think that’s a concern.

The other elephant in the room is the relationship between Marshall and Galvin. When Galvin said he wanted to leave the club in the best interests of his development it was taken as a shot at Marshall and his coaching ability.“

"The stuff about Benji and all the rest of it, he has never once said to us, not one time has he said to us, that Benji’s not a good coach or can’t coach,” Richardson said.

“What he said to us is he wants to be the best player I can be, and I believe that I can be that at another club.“

"He’s never said (Marshall can’t coach). Lachlan is a very honest kid. He’s as simple as it gets. He loves his footy. If he were sitting here with you, he would be twirling the ball.

“He just loves his footy. He’s always had this thing in the back of his mind that he could obviously get a better opportunity elsewhere.“

"The bottom line is though from that point of view, Lachlan has never said that in any way, shape or form (that Marshall can’t coach).”

Richo is the exact man you want.

It took him 5 years at Souths before we made finals and 10 years before we were a top 4 side. We can argue about the privatisation having a bigger effect etc, but the fact is when he came to Souths we were a rabble needing handouts to avoid bankrupcy, and when he left we were a perennial Top 4 side and financially one of the strongest football clubs in Sydney.

In fact, as good as Blake Solly goes for us financially/with the corpos, his complete inability to handle our football side of things has only highlighted Richo's absence IMO.

Richo is a prick but he will sort the Tigers out.
