Galvin v the Tigers

Any of you tigpie cowards who were calling for Galvins head want to comment on your own CEOs words?
No .. but what seems clear is that Moses is an expert at manipulating the media and pretty much the whole NRL in general lol

I still think Galvin thinks benji can’t coach. No way he says it directly to Richo or benji himself, so it doesn’t leave much for the imagination to who he may have shared that opinion with

Richo is the exact man you want.

It took him 5 years at Souths before we made finals and 10 years before we were a top 4 side. We can argue about the privatisation having a bigger effect etc, but the fact is when he came to Souths we were a rabble needing handouts to avoid bankrupcy, and when he left we were a perennial Top 4 side and financially one of the strongest football clubs in Sydney.

In fact, as good as Blake Solly goes for us financially/with the corpos, his complete inability to handle our football side of things has only highlighted Richo's absence IMO.

Richo is a prick but he will sort the Tigers out.

yeah he’s said a few times souths were in considerably worse shape then us when he got there

the blocks clearly not everyone’s cup of tea but he has the runs on the board and an ego which won’t allow a player agent to one up him. He’ll gladly keep Galvin at the club until there’s a ‘win’ for him

Yep, not sure how anyone thinks Isaac got this coaching info from anyone else other then Galvin.

Eels fans fan gurling and running defence over Galvin is absolutely hilarious. Swifties don’t love Taylor this much. Lets see how much they love him if they end up having a gap year next year with Hawkins at 6 waiting for Lachie, or then if he gets an offer from say Melbourne/penrith and leaves them at the altar.

Agree. It was handled all wrong and the inmates clearly run the asylum over at the Tigers. Comes down to a lack of an experienced coach and coaching staff I think.
I’ve been under the belief that Benji is a short term solution to the coaching role. Richo came in and inherited him as coach. Sacking him without good reason would only get fans offside. I do think this saga will eventually do him in, but getting some distance and cooling down a bit I feel Richo is just as responsible as anyone else for it going sideways by releasing the statement that he’s leaving. It could have been kept in house for a few more weeks/months. At least until we had a fit Latu Fainu to slot in and replace him.

I am glad we have Richo on board but I think he’s made a pigs ear of this one. I think he’s a top operator but he set of the powder keg here releasing the statement that Galvin is leaving. He’s tried to set it up so Galvin (or more specifically Moses) is the bad guy when he himself is the one to pull the pin. I would rather we walk away from the deal than do what we did with Brooks and offer him overs on a long term deal and be stuck with a player who isn’t it.

All he’s really done is seemingly turn the playing group against the kid, and we have no one in the squad to replace him right now. With 4 tough games before our next bye I can realistically see us losing several on the bounce and being back in a spoon race. This should have been left to the off season to sort out.

What club is going to pay him more than $6m over 5 years?

There’s no way it’s about money. Tigers offered him overs. He rejected it. Turuva left for an extra $50k a year. While Galvin will be earning a hell of a lot less elsewhere.

Money is clearly not the main factor here, however there is no way he’ll be taking a significant pay cut

Nearly every team has declared no interest in him. I can’t see Eels paying more than $1m a season for him. Over 5 years he loses $1m if that happens.

Even at $1m a season its ridiculous overs. He’s worth half that at most. Throw in potential maybe $800k a season which is still a gamble. Tigers are better off with him rejecting them. Fancy ~$2.5m a year being locked up in the halves snd one is just a kid who has done nothing yet.

well a lot of the no interest would be because 1) no team is thinking of their 2027 halves atm 2) they know he’s a done deal at parra 3) they don’t want to to deal with this shit when it’s contract time next time

I agree with all this, and had said the same re value months ago. He’s a done deal at the eels, it will be for whatever Browns deal was, $900k or something?

The Tigers club have a massive chip on there shoulder

They always seem like a club so keen on there image of not being pushed over by anyone they find themselves in situations they make more of a mess of then it has to be.

Is it the joint venture that causes this chip they have where Wests & Balmain dont get on.

The administration have banned half the board from entering one of there leagues club.

Like how are the players supposed to get on if the boardroom dont.
That is the Holman Barnes board. Wests Tigers Board is independent

Its Parra. I wouldnt be surprised if its a long deal a la DBrown and that is part of the attraction.

agree with all of this (except I reckon parra will be paying him >$1M). The thing about Galvin though is that at the end of a 5 year deal, he will only be 24 and all going well THAT contract will be the moneymaker.

That is why I think he/his dad/Moses have pulled the wrong rein on tis one leaving the Tigers. Lets face it, Parra isnt a big step up (if at all ) in the "I just want to win a comp" stakes and Galvin had the opportunity to be the "golden boy" that would be the shining young face of the Tigers resurgence, all the feel good element for the media around it and THEN massively clean up at 24yo with his reputation and career set up for the next 10years. If the Tigers stayed at the bottom then its a "poor Lachy" narrative and he still gets out for big $$

Yeah thats my biggest take away. If he was going to Penrith/Storm/Easts or even Souths under bennett you could cop it, but the one club which has had nearly as many basket case moments as us in the past 2 decades? The whole thing feels like its purely Issac getting a good halves partner for his cousin.

TBF I do think Moses and Galvin form a very good pairing, more suited then Lachie and Luai.
