look at the spinners we have to bat against in first class cricket

the only chance we get to attack spinners is in the IPL,

we just have no experience against quality spin and this will be our biggest problem in this world cup imo
x2, when dorhety is the best one day spinner you know you are pushing sh*t up hill.

Haddin is a decent player of spin, really no excuses for him. Ponting should have told him to look for the singles that is his main problem, don't burden him with batting till the end of the innings.

he's not only out of form but he isn't really a good player of spin

he could be struggling to hold his spot before the end of the WC

Not that he is on tour but I'd prefer Marsh to open with Watson and Haddin to bat down the lower order, not every wicketkeeper is a Gilchrist or Kalu and we needed the singles pushed around to rotate strike even if we can't get the big shots happening early atleast the scoreboard is ticking over and rotating the strike between left and right handers puts the bowlers off their game a bit.

At the end of the day a win is a win and hopefully we can steadily improve, we're notoriously slow starters at world cups.

Did anybody catch Ponting saying that preserving wickets is the way they're preparing for their games? I can't help but think we'll be in trouble with that strategy with no Andrew Symonds to bail us out, with Captain Victorian scoring at a flying 35 per 100 balls we'll be in trouble if we need him in the last 10.

Yeah that's right, 30 without loss, but the win streak is 23 (I think) stretching back to when we defeated the West Indies in 1999 IIRC but the 2007 WC felt like we played 30 games in itself.

Disagree, when our batsmen attack the likes of Swanna, Murali and Vettori they generally bat better and score runs... We make all spinners look a million bucks by playing them from the crease and not attacking against them.

Agree. Haddin has never impressed me as an opener. May just be me but Haddin looks good when he's carefree and doesn't have to worry about building an innings in one day cricket.

Also anybody heard this story about Ricky Ponting smashing a Television set in the dressing room after he was run out? Something mentioned on BBC Radio

yeah I meant to say the undefeated streak started then.

Undefeated streak started against Bangladesh in the group stage in 1999. We won our opener against Scotland before losing to Pakistan and NZ, then beat Bangladesh and the Windies, before winning all 3 Super 6s games tying the semi and winning the final.
