KK has a very good short kicking game. Thought his bombs were mostly pinpoint. Unfortunately, both Morts and KK have shocking long kicking games.
On a sad note neither Robson, Mortimer or Keating can chuck a cut out. The only cut outs I have seen this year are from Hayne...waste of our start back line IMO. DA should work with KK, Morts and develop a long passing game...all they seem to be able to do is pass to the next man or back inside.
That forward pass KK chucked against Manly was the longest pass he has thrown all year...and he had to wind up and put massive effort into it. Really has to work on his passing strength.
Other than that, good signs, probably only the 2nd or 3rd time our halves have played in wet conditions.
I think KK has by far the better kicking game of the halves: His long game is pretty decent when he has time - he generally gets the ball into space. I thought the Cowboys rushed him and put pressure on, and he kicked down Gallants throat every time as a result. KK can also pass pretty well, but he tends to tuck the ball under his arm and run it all the time (and I mean ALL the time!)
Robson can't kick it more than 12-15 metres in any direction at any time - whether forward OR up in the air. And he can throw a "cut out" pass - but only if the guy he is cutting out is pretty close to him!
Morts is a definite work in progress, but he shows the most energy out of the three in a positive way. His 'scrappy' work in defense is outstanding, he is always chasing the ball when it goes in behind the line, and he never gives up even in the face of mistakes.
I liked Freddy's call last night on him "He's going to learn something tonight - not sure what it is, but he'll learn something" - that was after his second error and second poor pass in bad conditions. As the rest of the game panned out it was clear Morts did learn something.
The REAL bonus in all this is Hayne. He can play long and short with his passing game, has a sublime kicking game long and short, and certainly gives the 2 young halves a real chance to grow. Personally I think there's enough in their respective games to give hope, and with Hayne chiming in at pressure times to produce something, it certainly takes some heat off them to do something every time!
Still not sold on Robson at hooker - but he's a great tackler.
