Just back from the game
1. Smith is constantly in the refs ear, when Storm are holding in the ruck, he is talking to the ref, a lot of times if you count as they hold down for 5 seconds when the so called time is 3 seconds. They don't count as he keeps them off balance, very smart
2. They are super fit and simple game plan, big bodies, quick feet on the fringes to get some half breaks, and when in the red zone, they have Smith and Cronk to pull the strings
3. They are constantly off side, refs are reluctant to blow ongoging penalties to ensure the game flows, smart but against the spirit of th game
4. In the wrestle, they push the limits, tonight it was twisting Manu's forearm , hitting Wicks in the back constantly and prepared to grub away
5. Their game is effective but boring, fitness the underlying key
6. We didn't get enough space as forwards when they did make ground, were held down and backs didn't get any room to move due to speed of the Storm line ( easy when you move before the ball is played )
7. Our forwards that do run straight, Wicks and Gower, needto do that as second runners behind a big body like Paulo who as again very disappointing and doesn't do enough in defence
Enough said, but shouldn't be doom and gloom as if this was any game in the previous 2/3 seasons we would have had 50 put on us
Obviously the dramas have played a part, but losing Scott after 20 minutes was a factor.
The real story of where we are will be told next week at the Knights, how we are mentally will answer that question
Storm are the benchmark professional team, very disciplined and we need to work to get our team equally as fast to pressure our opponents . Obvious but necessary
