Aeron Rivers sighed as he dunked the mop into the bucket of pinkish water and surveyed the room he and his fellow servants had been charged with cleaning. Two others like him stood guard over bucket and mop, while the rest of their number scurried about their own tasks.
While some of them strained and grunted with the effort of dragging blood-stained tables and chairs out of the great hall, others had the entirely less savoury task of disposing of the buddies.
By comparison, Aeron's task of mopping up the blood that had soaked into the floor seemed positively pleasant. Two days had passed since the infamous Red Wedding, though, and the blood had thickened into a sickly, syrrupy mess than clung to the mops and stones with equal desperate desire.
"It 'ain't right," Old Milly muttered as she went about her business, "It 'ain't right what was done 'ere".
Aeron moved away from the old lady. He might have agreed with her in principle, but he didn't want anybody associating him with such treasonous talk. Lord Frey had broken the ancient pact of Guest Rites, and so far two servants had been 'dealt with' for voicing their objection.
"Quiet woman," Aeron urged her, "Get about your work".
"It 'ain't right," she rambled on.
It wasn't right. Nothing had been since Robert Baratheon, rest his soul, had passed on. Still, the events from two nights ago had been a new kind of 'not right'. The King in the North had been put down, but only a fool would think that meant an end to hostilities.
And Aeron Rivers was no fool.
