My impression of the character of Melisandre has always been that she rides Stannis like a jockey. In other words she's using him because he is useful but she doesn't necessarily care about his best interests. He was 7k but that doesn't mean she started as 7k.

Initially I thought she would be a perfect independent candidate but given the connection with Stannis who was town, it would make little sense for her to be an independent. They have to be together in the same group, and the only group that satisfies that criteria is 7K.

Seems fair enough regarding Bazal. Vote Bazal I need to go back to read the whole thing again as there's no doubt some clue lying around.
