That theory regarding Jons parentage is outright spelt out in the books imo. The fact that they didn't mention it at all during the show makes me wonder if GRRM is changing his mind on it because he made it too obvious. Maybe if he released his books at a timely rate people wouldn't have gone over his work so much.

Finished reading ADWD a couple of days ago.

Spoilers
Enjoyed the book, but the cliffhanger ending is killing me.

Is Jon really dead? For some reason I don't think so. There's still so much left to this story, such as his parentage.

Wun Wun is one of my new favourite character. Hopefully he survives what could happen on the Wall with all hell potentially breaking loose.

Also I'm a bit concerned at the directions that Arya's and Bran's characters are going, Bran in particular. Both seem to somewhat be going over to the dark side. Iirc in the prologue of Dance with Varamyr Six-skins, it was mentioned how a Warg who ate man-flesh, while inside an animal, or skin changed into another human was considered an abomination. Well Bran's kinda already done both.

With regard to your spoiler

It would be complete total bullshit if he killed Jon considering the books have devoted 15 years to establishing him as an integral part of the story. This is not killing off Ned which was a good use of subversion this would be amazingly frustrating.

Foreshadowing shit in small subtle increments for 5 to 7 seasons in advance would be pointless, not to mention difficult given the filming constraints and what scenes would need to be written as most the information in the books come via internal thought. When it comes it'll come as an info dump, perhaps as Jon filler for the AFFC season or when it actually becomes relevant.

Is there anywhere on TV at all to watch this that's not Showcase?

It seems to be the only channel with any good shows on.

No, just watch it the same way everyone not in the USA does. Or buy the season on dvd if you're internet challenged.

I just started watching this thanks to being stuck at home for a week.

Saw up to ep5 and I wasn't really getting into it tbh, then ep 6 comes along and it's starting to ramp up and I am enjoying it a hell of a lot more now (I'm halfway through ep8) The first few eps bored the living piss out of me but I understand why they needed to develop the characters and their stories, I am actually thinking about buying the books. I reckon they they would be a very good read.

I am having trouble at times keeping up with who they are talking about in different conversations, it might be the pommy accent or the fact there is 43875057258 characters in the show.......

They are a good read.

Two and three were awesome, I've been stuck in the middle of book four for about 6 months though.

The books, like LOTR, are full of a lot more detail than the live action versions. They get a bit bogged down in parts but over all they are a fantastic read.

I read the first two books back in 2008 but hit a patch where he kept killing characters and this didn't click with my low point in life.

Haven't picked them up since and think I'll only read them as the seasons are done. I kind of like not knowing/remembering where it's going and seeing it play out in front of me.
