Game Result - South West Vs Wide Bay

Didn't see any result of this game played as a curtain -raiser to last weekends Broncos game so if anyone can assist ----- please do.

Also, if anyome could shed some light on the demise of the traditional City / Country game (where the players actually were from country teams like Townsville Brothers, Toowoomba Valleys ETC) it would be of interest.

City v Country matches kicked off in 1970. The best of the Brisbane competition would face the best of all the country competitions in an annual game. These matches were usually played for selection of Queensland teams (Interstate, Origin or Residents). 1988 onwards, players in the NSWRL, ARL or NRL competitions were not selected for City/Country matches. Players for the Country side were only selected from country Queensland Cup sides from 1998 onwards. However, this will change in 2001 and all who play in the country will be eligible for the side.

How would you work the teams Partisan?

Currently we have:

City (Brisbane based Qld Cup players) v Country (Country based Qld Cup players)

One year they picked a bloke from Group 18 who played in the A Grade carnival.

I mean they have Brisbane A Grade playing in the A Grade carnival so maybe you need to remove them from the carnival and have them take on Qld Country who would be picked from that carnival. Dont know if Mixwell Cup is strong enough to win that?

Perhaps we need a big City v Country night with:

City v Country Origin (NRL)
City v Country (Qld Cup)
City v Country (as discussed above)

I think there should be a City Country match for QLD in the NRL on the Saturday night of the actual City County NSW match that they have now.
