Why is Boyd such a different player with Metcalf on the field?

I think it's less about Boyd being off his game and more Metcalf just being so slow and undercooked.

He (and Charnze) were absolute turnstiles and we got left chasing our tails too long because of it.
Boyd never stopped trying and was often keeping us in it.

I don't know whether Bellamy's done but one thing's for sure, we wouldn't swap our current coach for him. Imagine saying that ten years ago?

Personally, I would 100% swap him. One swallow doesn't make a summer.

I actually think Webby is going to be another Cleary. He wont win anything with us, then will take his learnings from us and have wins elsewhere (probably with Penrith too).

I wouldn't. Not in 2026. Cleary would have won one here, he just needed a half competent CEO and owner to allow him to. Webby is 100% the right guy for us. No chance I would swap him for Bellamy at the end of his days.

Tons to love about Webster but IMO he’s still prone to making calls that highlight a reluctance to adapt. Rushing Metcalf into a settled and winning team was a mistake and while you could argue that’s easy to say in hindsight, it was almost a carbon copy of rushing back SJ a couple years ago when TMM was running hot.

I do believe Webster will break our duck at some stage, but I also believe Bellamy would break it sooner. Not just for his own coaching ability, but for the fact he'd better attract key players that would elevate us to genuine contenders quicker.

I do believe Webster will break our duck at some stage, but I also believe Bellamy would break it sooner. Not just for his own coaching ability, but for the fact he'd better attract key players that would elevate us to genuine contenders quicker.

I don't see Bellamy's style working here personally - one of Webby's strengths is his strong connection with the boys and I don't the ol Bellyache whipcrack being as effective.

Bit of a choosing begger maybe, I'd have a different tune if we were sitting under someone else other than Webby or Cleary.

Yep thats a fair point.

But despite Bellamy's reputation of being tough, I dont recall many (if any?) rumours of players being unhappy over the 24 odd years he's coached. Unlike the constant speculation that follows Madge around for instance.

Which makes me think the maniacal version of Bellamy we see in the box on gameday, is pretty well balanced during the week.

Yeah, his players all seem to love him, and he's always had a diverse mix of players down there.

I'm just not as enamoured with Webby as most, don't get me wrong, I think he's a bloody good coach and I'm glad George is so shit at his job that we wound up with him, but I don't think he's infallible, I guess he'd have to win for me to be fully on board.

I've seen a couple of social media clips with Warriors players calling Metcalf the coach's favorite. That was also SJ when he was playing. Webster will need to learn not to play favorites or guarantee they are automatically in. That applies to Ford and Barnett too. Leave a winning team as is.

Coaching is a bloody tough gig, a lot of it can be right place at the right time and a bit of luck

Outside of Bellamy and Bennett in the current era, not many have a long, sustained run of success. 1 of those had to cheat for a long period to build the foundations for it, and let’s not forget while Bennett has won 7, the last one of those was over 15 years ago now

Hasler was elite for over a decade, you can probably throw Robinson in that group as well and it’s probably amiss of me not to throw Cleary in with the other 2 now, but it still took him a dozen or so years to reach the summit

What does show out quickly is when people can’t coach, the likes of Barrett and Seibold

Webster is in a group that has shown he can coach, has shown he can get a group to the finals, from that point it’s all things slotting into place with injury etc at finals time to get the job done

Webster absolutely has his favourites and that is his biggest weakness IMO, especially as they become available and he looks to fix what isn’t broke. Metcalf (and let’s be fair, he has a bigger ceiling than Boyd), Capewell, Ford, CNK, Niukore
