The backstory behind this freefall is they couldn't settle on a potential buyout that was happening behind the scenes.

I hope the staff on the ground level land on their feet, but frankly, good riddance.

I am pretty much just a PS dude these days. Get my stuff on sale online. Will only buy in store if there is an offer too good to refuse. And frankly that is very very rarely ever EBG. The value for money is non existent

EBG is always more expensive where i am. I have JB, Target and Big W with cheaper games, consoles and bundles

The bolded part sums up how often I shop at EB Games. I picked up RDR 2 for $29 with a trade in of 2 games and before that I think the last game I bought there was Doom on PS4 for $39 but I think that was probably 2 or 3 years ago.

At my local shopping centre I've got an EB, JB Hi Fi, K-Mart, Target and EB are almost always the most expensive.

I know EB games isn’t great but I would much prefer they got their act together rather than vanish altogether. Having a dedicated game store as an option can’t be a bad thing.

They need to rethink their model IMO. In a lot of centres I go into they’re very close to where JBHF are. JBHFs wider range of tech will naturally attract a wider audience and once they’re in there and the price point is $10 cheaper, what are the chances of educated buyers becoming repeat rebuys at EBG?

Plus now it’s so easy and often more cost efficient to buy games online.

I just don’t see their point of difference in a crowded market.

That would have been a market cap of 1.5b before the slump! Had no idea that many people got their games from there

They cater to parents who have NFI about gaming but need to buy their children bday/Xmas presents etc, and think the best place to buy games is the game store.

I sometimes go into EB just to have a look around and nearly every time their is some poor sucker being conned into buying their kid some shitty z grade title at like 3x market price.

They won't be missed.

Honestly with the rise of legit online key sellers such as GMG and Fanatical where you can quite often get 15-20% off before release it's a surprise EB Games lasted as long as they did.

Last thing I get from EB games was the Witcher 3 collectors edition that came with all the physical goods as well. Would have done the same for CP2077 as well. Guess I'll see what's what with that one.

I’m going to go against the trend and say I don’t mind EB. They price match any of the cheaper stores and regularly give 10-20% trade-in bonuses.

I also have a large backlog of games and little time to play, so I’m happy to pick up a AAA title as a preowned copy over a year after it comes out, and EB are pretty good for that too.

Only reason I go to EB is for the game cards they have that nobody else has. Other games I just get from jb hifi.
