Geelong has entered the Rugby League scene after a nine year absence with the formation of the Geelong Tiger Snakes. The Tiger Snakes, who will participate in the Melbourne Rugby League competition in 2005 will play out of Newcomb's Ervin Reserve.
Geelong join already a list of growing clubs and competitions that will join the Victorian Rugby League in 2005, including the newly formed Central Highlands Rugby League and the Maroondah Magpies.
Co-coach and club vice-president Jamie Osland said it was a chance for Geelong to get behind the code and develop its potential in the region.
``We are building a base in Geelong for rugby league so that our local talent is not heading to Melbourne clubs just for a game,'' Osland said.
``We have already developed a strong player interest and the club committee is working extremely hard to continue to develop that.''
The club is on the hunt for players, supporters and sponsors and plans to add junior sides to its ranks in the coming years.
The Tiger Snakes will kick off pre-season training on November 14.
Anyone interested in joining the club can phone Osland on 0413885762 or John Dowey on 0410217164.
